The two Bishops of West Ankole and Busoga dioceses Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni and Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale have applauded the director general of PIBID/ BIRDC Prof. Florence Muranga for the work she is doing on bananas by adding value to them.
The two Bishops also hailed staff, board of governors and farmers for cooperating with Dr. Prof. Muranga to ensure that great work is done at Nyaruzinga where a high class banana factory has been constructed to process bananas into flour and other products.
This was revealed yesterday afternoon during an annual thanksgiving held at Nyaruzinga Bushenyi and was attended by many high level guests who included among others Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha the managing director national water and Sewerage Corporation.
Rev. Dr. Florence Isabirye Muranga also senior nutritionist at PIBID/BIRDC made it clear that PIBID will keep the vigor and vision through research and innovation, then support farmers for national development through new technologies.
Tooke brand ambassador and external relations officer Henry Mugisha appreciated everyone’s effort mostly the Bushenyi district health officer (DHO) Dr. Stephen Bwekingo Twinomugisha and the Uganda Red cross Society for extending medical services to the people at the event.
He confirmed that the medical services and camps will continue across many banana growing districts with an aim of supporting banana producers and the general public.
PIBID/ BIRDC is a Ugandan government project started in 2005 to turn fresh Matooke (green bananas) into high-value industrial flour and products.
