By Solomon Owohangire
In Bushenyi–
Stakeholders in Bushenyi have resolved to close all schools that do not meet the standards set by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The resolution was reached at in the district council meeting on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the district council hall.
According to the district chairman, Jaffari Basajjabalaba, they received a circular from the Ministry of Education and Sports instructing them to close all schools that are not registered with the Ministry and do not have the requirements to operate. He said that they closed a few schools last year but they have reopened and are operating illegally.
Basajabalaba added that he will move with all the concerned district officers and police as they close the schools in order to make it clear that it is not done for individual reasons.
However, councilors advised the chairman to sit with the stakeholders and investigate the schools and look at the technicalities involved in closing them so as to avoid legal and other costs that may arise.
They warned the stakeholders against closing only private schools arguing that even some government schools are operating in a very poor state.
