Rwampara Resident District Commissioner – RDC Emmy Kateera Turyabagyenyi has warned all people in wetlands to vacate as soon as possible or they will be forcefully evicted.
Turyabagyenyi was speaking during the launch of a massive restoration drive of the degraded wetlands in Rwinsinga Ndeija subcounty.
The RDC said that the wetlands have been heavily encroached on by some individuals who have severally been noticed by National Environmental Management Authority -NEMA to vacate the premises but have kept a deaf ear.
He added that the gardens and plantations within the buffer zone have been cleared by the time the two weeks operation comes to an end.
In his remarks, Jeoconious Musingwire the NEMA focal person for South Western Uganda noted that all climatic changes which have come with hazzards are mainly due to destruction of natural resources.

Uganda’s deputy head of mission for the European Union in Brussels and Benelux countries Ambassador Franklin Katungwe has congratulated the cabinet recently appointed by the president most especially those from Greater Bushenyi.
Museveni appointed cabinet members and Kahinda Otafire, Thomas Tayebwa of Mitooma, Raphael Magyezi of Igara East were among the appointees.
Katungwe however castigated social media users who are ridiculing minister Karooro after losing her position in cabinet.
The ambassador urged the public to welcome her since she has served her term and retired with a clean record.
He asked Karooro to work with her successor Annet Katusiime Mugisha so that they can develop Bushenyi together.

In Kanungu—
Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding a fatal accident that claimed lives of two people while others were critically injured.
The deceased; Omar Elsayed Mohammed Eldaghar aged 27 an Egyptian passenger died on spot and a pedestrian Kabatereine Simeon 49 of Rushasha village Mpungu in Kanungu died from the health center.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi regional spokesperson ,the accident occurred last evening at about 5pm at Rushasha village along Mpungu-Butogota road.
He said that a vehicle knocked the pedestrian and veered off the road down a steep valley about 300 metres but was stopped by trees before it reached down the valley.
This involved motor vehicle reg. no UBE790D, Toyota super custom grey in color being driven by Kabanda Denis Emmanuel 37years.
“Hommel Laurenz aged 24years a German national who was a passenger and the driver are both admitted at Bwindi hospital but in stable condition and will be airlifted to Kampala today.”- Maate added.
Police immediately visited the scene, took the bodies to Bwindi hospital mortuary pending postmortem. The case of fatal accident has since been registered under reference number TAR 11/2021 to ascertain the cause of the accident as inquiries are ongoing

In Masindi—
The Secretary for Masindi Army Day Primary School in Masindi municipality has succumbed to COVID-19, days after admission at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital in Hoima city.
Patrick Baguma, the District Health Officer (DHO) for Masindi has confirmed the death of the female patient who had been referred to Hoima from Kitara Medical Center in Masindi.
“I am in touch with Hoima Regional Referral Hospital management to ensure that the body is brought back to Masindi for burial. Our health workers will handle the burial,” Baguma explained.
He added that deceased is one of the three patients who had been evacuated from Masindi hospital and Kitara Medical Centre to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for further management.
“I am even having a crisis meeting today with my health workers. I want all my health workers to play their role,” explained Baguma.
Masindi has recorded 93 cumulative cases and 16 active cases. Thirteen are being managed from their homes under close supervision of health workers.

In Kisoro—
Police in Kisoro are hunting for assailants who attacked a Security Guard at National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) facility in, killed him and took away with his gun.
The incident happened at Chuho village in Gasiza parish also in Nyakabande Sub County where the deceased was guarding a National Water and Sewerage Corporation pump station.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate told our reporter that the late Erick Habomugisha an employee of SWATT Company was killed on Saturday night by unknown assailants who later dragged his body into a water stream.
Habomugisha’s supervisor Monday Patrick said that the deceased had been deployed for night duty with a gun registration number SAR UG PSO 9069985-08751 which was taken by the assailants.
Maate said that Police preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was cut with a panga because he had deep cuts on his neck and the panga was recovered at the scene of crime.
The body of Habomugisha was picked by the Police and taken to Kisoro Hospital for a Postmortem examination and no arrests have so far been made.
The case was registered at Kisoro District Central Police Station under reference number CRB 282/2021 to help in investigations.

Operation Wealth Creation – OWD beneficiaries in Masindi district have been challenged not to exchange government projects into cash but rather take care of them to eradicate poverty.
The call was made this afternoon at the official handover of twenty heifers donated by the government through the NAADs secretariat to the special interest groups including the youth, people with disabilities, people living with HIV/AIDS, and the district officials at the district headquarters.
Maj. Norbert Akiiki Besisira the OWC coordinator Buruli Constituency challenged the beneficiaries not to exchange heifers into cash before multiplying but rather take care of them to eradicate poverty, improve on nutrition and improve on the house hold income.
Richard Kiiza the Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer – Masindi appreciated the government for the effort injected in fighting poverty in the district through such projects.
Kiiza appealed to the beneficiaries to take care of the heifers to fight poverty, improve nutrition, and also improve on household income. He also warned them from exchanging them for cash unless they multiply noting that if they exchange them for cash they will have lost the capital.
Edward Wabyona the youth leader from greater Pakanyi sub county has applauded the government for the project noting that he has been empowered to eradicate poverty and improve on his household income.
“This is my capital, and I will look after it to be an example before the youth to enable embrace government projects, and I believe it will improve on my household income.” Norbert Tweheyo the youth chairperson Budongo sub county notes.
Grace Gawera a resident of Kimengo sub county hopes the project will improve on her nutrition, household income and become the role model in her sub county.

Police in Kabale are hunting for unknown assailants who waylaid a special police constable and injured him on the head and in the left leg.
The victim Mathew Akampurira was attacked yesterday evening at around 10pm at Highland boda boda stage in Kabale municipality.
According to Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate, the victim was attacked as he returned to his home in Rwakaraba in northern division after a night patrol.

In Rukungiri—
Fire has gutted a building in Rukungiri and burnt a whole shop to ashes destroying property worth millions of money.
The incident happened yesterday Monday at around 9pm in Kagashe ward, Eastern division Rukungiri district
The fire is said to have burnt down the shop which belongs to Precious Orishaba who rents in Joseph Barironda’s building.
“An eye witness told www.mknewslink.com reporter that the fire started at about 3pm and is suspected to have originated from electric short circuit,” John Kwetegyeka the local council, one chairperson Kagashe narrated
“By the time the Police Fire brigade arrived with water trucks, the fire had consumed all her retrial shop worth 3 million” witness told our reporter.
The business owner was still in shock to talk to the media as she had nothing to say because he lost everything.
