Police in Rukungiri district arrested two men yesterday for allegedly murdering
a Boda-boda rider.

The suspects are Apollo Kanyeihamba aged 46 and Brian Kiiza of 27
years both residents of Kinyabushisha cell, Kitimba ward Western
division Rukungiri municipality.

It’s alleged that on 21st May 2018, the duo assaulted David Nuwagaba
(22) when gambling. He was admitted in Nyakibale hospital and later
was referred to Mbarara hospital on 26th May 2018 where he died on 27th May , 2018

The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate said that when
residents learnt of Nuwagaba’s death, they attempted to lynch the suspects but
were rescued by police. Maate said that however their property that
included banana plantationswere destroyed and house hold property
were burnt.

Maate condemned the acts of mob justice adding that police has
started inquiries, and on evidence the suspects will be aligned in
courts law to answer charges accordingly.

The Inspector General of Police John Martin Okoth Ochola, has said that the DPCs and RPCs should use their intelligence to facilitate themselves the police is underfunded. He however noted that police authorities are utilizing the few resources available in order to facilitate the DPCs and RPCs.
The IGP made these remarks, during meeting with heads of police from greater Bushenyi region at Katungu Mothers union in Bushenyi.
Ochola has called upon police officers in Greater Bushenyi region to apply professionalism while doing their job.
He also noted that the conduct and behavior of police officers should be considered important if they are to restore the trust and from the public.
Ochola also noted that human rights should be observed and condemned torturing of suspects by the police.
On the rampant kidnaps in the country, the IGP said assured the public that police is doing its job to ensure security saying that the situation is not alarming. He thus urged the public to always call police before giving out ransom.
He also urged the police to have good relation with the media and has self respect.
He was accompanied by the police spokes Person Emilian Kayima, chief political commissar Asan Kasingye, Asuman Mugenyi, commissioner of protocol hajji Basalirwa
Greater Bushenyi region is the first place to be visited by the IGP since he took over from his predecessor Gen. Kale Kayihura early this year.

The Ministry of Education has transferred over 1,800 secondary school teachers and the affected have been ordered to leave their current stations to their new posting before second term begins on May 28.
Samuel Kuloba, the Commissioner of Secondary Education, yesterday said that they delayed to transfer the teachers because they had to first establish whether the wage bill in some of the districts would accommodate those affected.
A list includes more than 1,800 teachers especially those who had worked at a station for more than 15 years.
Hebert Kiguli, the Commissioner Human Resource said that they are trying to implement the Public Service regulation which requires that civil servants be transferred after five years of working at the same work station.

He however, said that this has not been followed at the ministry with many teachers creating chiefdoms in the communities they have been serving.
Kiguri added that the reshuffle will be phased with another batch expected in November, which will see more than 5,000 teachers transferred.
Mr Kiguli defended the transfers, saying they are meant to improve and add more knowledge on individual teachers when they encounter new challenges.

However, some teachers said that the transfers were isolated on some individuals, leaving out some other officers who have worked in schools for more than 20 years.
The teachers questioned why the ministry has been reluctant to share the list of transferred teachers.
They claim that their supervisors, who are the head teachers, sometimes malice them especially if they have divergent views.
At the ministry, some officials confirmed the development but explained that they agreed as a committee not to share the list at the request of head teachers.

A week after Uganda wildlife Authority (UWA) captured a hyena that was killing domestic animals, resident of Pakanyi Sub County in Masindi district are again living in fear after being invaded by stray elephants.
The reported herd of five elephants that strayed from the neighboring Murchison Falls national park on Wednesday last week is said to be destroying crops in Nyakarongo,Nyakatiti and Kitengule villages all in Pakanyi sub county.
Apollo Byenkya, a resident of Nyakarongo village told www.mknewslink.com that the elephants destroyed cassava, Banana, beans plus fruit trees like mangoes and jack fruits, have destroyed his cassava gardens.
Byenkya, who appealed for immediate help from UWA, revealed that the elephants have also left area residents in fear citing his child who he said developed a mental problem after the elephants invaded his home at night in search for jack fruits.
Frank Asiimwe, the sub county chairperson confirmed the reports when contacted, revealing that he has contacted UWA over the matter but it yet to respond.
We could not get a comment from UWA on the matter at the time of filing this story.

Thousands of people yesterday filled up Kizinda play ground in Bushenyi as Bushenyi FM celebrated 10 years of service.

According to the directors, the function aimed at giving back and appreciation to the community for the support rendered in 10 years and a brand new bajaj boxer motorbike and two cows were given away as grand prizes. Other prizes given included; goats, mattresses, blankets, hampers among others.

Kabinga Banerd a resident of Mitooma district won a motorbike while Tumuramye Abel a resident of Ruhumuro won a cow and very many others walked away with different prizes.

The function also featured a football match between Sheema and Bushenyi where Sheema won 2:1 and were awarded with a cow.

There was also oldies dancing competitions and the winners were also given prizes.

Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut, the Minister of General duties in the Office of the Prime Minister and also the Bushenyi District Woman MP, hailed the directors of BFM for the great work done in disseminating.

She said this in her speech as the chief guest, while giving out prizes to the lucky winners.

The function was also attended by the Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality MP Hon Arinda Gordon ‘Cowboy’, the Bushenyi District FDC party Chairperson, Paul Kahiigi, former Deputy RDC Bushenyi Medius Rubanda and former BFM radio workers like Dj Demus and Kachaina among others.

According to listeners who spoke to www.mknewslink.com , the function was term as the best ever by a Bushenyi based company since it attracted an overwhelming crowd like never before.

The 2nd Division Court-martial sitting in Makenke Mbarara has today sentenced a 42 year old UPDF officer to 7 years in prison over manslaughter.
The court which was presided over by the 2nd Division Court martial chairman Col. Geoffrey Mujuni Rwamunyonyore sentenced Sgt. Juma Abubakari to seven years imprisonment for manslaughter of a fellow officer.
Court heard that on 28th November 2017 while at kidedeya range ground, Sgt. Abubakari with PK submachine gun shot and caused death of Private Nelson Kiiza whom they were together at the shooting range ground.
While reading the judgment, Col. Mujuni said that the convict pleaded guilty and the court convicted him on his own plea of guilty and the considered the prayers of both prosecution and the defense council’s mitigation factors and came up with a seven years term of sentence which he has a right to appeal to a higher court with 14 days.

In Bushenyi
Leaders in Bushenyi district have rejected a consignment of 955 bags
of cassava cuttings supplied to them under the Operation Wealth Creation program for distribution to community members in all sub counties on grounds that it is too late for this season.
David Bainomugisha, the Bushenyi district productions officer said that most of the target farmers intercrop cassava with beans, sweet potatoes and ground nuts therefore intercropping cannot be possible because at the time they are now at flowering stage.
The 290 bags of cassava cuttings were recently delivered by Ms LUCK and Lark Co. Ltd and distributed to farmers but Ms Nakalema Dorothy delayed her delivery.
He said that relevant authorities should mind about quality and Timeframe
because people deserve better from this government program.
In a letter written today signed by Robinah Tumwebaze for, the chief Administartive officer, they have requested for delivery of cassava cuttings in August.

Meanwhile, Maj Asan Oinebyeye, the Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation in Igara West who was recently relieved of his duties and sent to UPDF for redeployment has been replaced by Capt. Aaron Twineddembe who has already reported to take up office duties.

Stanibic bank which had earlier closed its branch in Bushenyi town has now come back in form of Agent Banking in partnership with Shell Marindi after approval Bank of Uganda to transact business.
According to Henry Bamwine the shell Marindi retailer , the public is now free to easily access bank services from the branch.
He added that Bushenyi residents have been facing difficulty in getting bank services since the transfer of Stanibic bank Bushenyi branch to Ishaka town.
Services to be offered include; cash deposits, cash withdraws, school fees payments, bill payments like water and electricity bills , money transfers, interbank transfers, account opening among others.
Bamwine called upon parents in Bushenyi town to embrace this opportunity and bank school fees when it’s still early to avoid inconveniences.
Bamwine also added that they are soon introducing a highly sensitive ATM machine which will be used to deposit and withdraw money as well. He emphasized that this will make it easy and cheap to for Bushenyi residents and the public at large.

In Hoima
One person has died on spot while two children were seriously injured after being struck by lightning in Bugambe sub-county, Hoima district on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Tophil Bonani aged 33-years, a resident of Nyamulima village in Katanga parish, Bugambe Sub County, Hoima district.
The injured are identified as Precious Katusabe an 11-year-old girl and another one only identified as Ainembabazi who are admitted at Kyakirube health Centre II in Bugambe Sub-county.
James Bigirwa, the Nyamulima village chairman said thunderbolt struck as eight people were taking a shelter from the afternoon showers.
Bigirwa told www.mknewslink.com that the two children were found lying helpless in the compound while five others only experienced some shock and are now fine.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson regrets the incident but advises the public to be extra careful by switching off all electronic gadgets when it is raining.
Johnson Katusiime, the area district male councilor however cautions the public to plant trees around their homes in order to minimize the danger posed by lightning.
In October last year, lightning killed four school children and injured five others at St Prisca Primary School in Hoima municipality while in September, over 20 pupils from Kifuumura primary school Buhanika sub-county were hospitalized after lightning struck their school.

The electoral commission has today started the nomination process for
candidates aspiring to contest in the Rukungiri district Parliamentary
seat by- election.

Nomination is to be held at Rukungiri District Headquarters with
the station to be open from 9am.

Speaking to our reporter the new Rukungiri District returning officer
Umar Kiyimba said 7 aspirants picked nomination forms.

Kiyimba said opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Betty
Muzanira is expected at 10am, followed by the Independent Peace
Mutuzo.

The ruling NRM’s candidate, Winnie Masiko will be nominated on Friday of May 4,2018
Kiyimba cautioned the aspiring candidates not to move with crowds when going for nomination saying they are allowed to come with two vehicles with at least 10 supporters.

Campaign meetings will be held for a period of twenty six days from
4th May to 29th May 2018.

Voting for the MP will take place on Thursday May 31, 2018 at all 280
polling stations in Rukungiri District.
