Police in Mbarara city have in detention two male cleaners who were found in possession of an oxygen concentrator stolen from Mbarara regional referral hospital.
The two; Julius Bayizire and Didas Twesigye ,both cleaners at the facility were arrested following a tip off from a neighbor across Mbarara Referral Hospital perimeter wall who saw one of the suspects offloading an oxygen concentrator from a waste container to the incinerator.

The whistle blower identified as Gerivazio Owoyesigire a charcoal dealer in Taso Village told this reporter that he immediately informed Joram Musanyufu the head of Cleaners at Mbarara referral hospital visited the scene with hospital security and recovered the concentrator.

Immediately, they apprehended the Julius Bayizire who later confessed to have had an accomplice Didas Twesigye.

The hospital through the public relations officer called police who picked suspects for safe custody.

Dr. Francis Oriokot the hospital deputy director condemned the incident of saying this act could have endangered lives of many patients in the Toto ward where the concentrator had been stolen.

Halson Kagure the Mbarara Referral Hospital Public Relations Officer said that the suspect will avail police with information in regards to the destination of the equipment.

Suspects are currently detained at Mbarara Central Police for interrogation pending trial in courts of law.

The Rwampara District Chief administrative officer Steven Rubeihayo and the District Production Officer Athanasious Gumisiriza who were recently arrested over missing parish development Model( PDM) funds were yesterday (Wednesday) released on Police Bond
The duo was ordered to refund the missing money within 7 days or face court

The RDC Rwampara district Jane Asiimwe Muhindo says they signed a document accepting to pay the money
The two were arrested on Monday on the orders of Rwampara Resident District Commissioner for allegedly embezzling Parish development model funds.
The two were dragged to Nyeihanga Police station

Their arrest came after a PDM meeting convened at Rwampara District Headquarters in Kinoni by the RDC Jane Asiimwe Muhindo

MASINDI:

Residents of Pakanyi Sub County in Buruli County Masindi district, are asking for government intervention to fix the Tantara Bridge that got broken about three years ago.

The bridge is along Ibaralibi – Alimugonza road, which is about 20kms from Masindi town.

Bogere Atugonza, a resident of Alimugonza village said their main challenge is transportation of their agricultural produce.

‘’Vehicles can’t cross to the other side of the bridge and this has forced us to employ casual labourers to carry heavy goods for us,” Atugonza said.

Frank Asiimwe, the LC3 Chairperson for Pakanyi said it is majorly business people who are being affected hence calling on government to speed up timely intervention.

Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi District LCV Chairperson told our reporter that the funds for the reconstruction of the bridge have been secured and hopes that works will begin before end of September, 2022.

Byaruhanga said works were expected to begin last month but were pushed ahead because the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, who was supposed to commission the works, had travelled out of the country.

KANUNGU

Police in Kanungu district is investigating circumstances under which a two-year-old boy died in a fire that gutted a shop in Kihiihi Town council
The Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate identified the deceased as Asingura Lordwin 2, a resident of Rutwe cell Kihiihi town ward Kihihi Town council Kanungu district
Maate explains that on Friday at around 10:00AM, the mother of the deceased identified as Vanis Akankiza left her shop located in Rutwe cell Kihihi town ward and took her other child to hospital leaving the deceased asleep .
She also left a burning charcoal stove on the premises.
Maate says fire broke out and spread through the retail shop, razing it .
Neighbors braved the flames, pulled out the badly burnt boy, and rushed him to Kigezi hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police were notified, visited, the scene and together with community put out the fire. Some properties were saved from the blaze
Postmortem was done, pending inquiries.
Statements were registered at the KIHIHI Police station under file number CRB 146/2022.

The minister of state for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Mario Obiga Kania has blamed service providers for the delay in construction of Roads in the country. He says services providers such as Water,UMEME and telecommunication companies delay to shift their equipment from road sites.

Hon. Kania made the remarks on Wednesday as he officiated at the ground breaking ceremony of five Mbarara city Roads and beautification of Rwebikoona market parking yard.

The minister however says as a remedy, government is considering a move to formulate a policy which will deter service providers from demanding a charge fee from contractors before shifting their equipment from road sites.

The road works with a millage of 3.94KM include Lower Circular Road(0.8km), Kyamugorani road(2.02km), Municipal Access Road(0.1km),Ruhara Road(0.47Km), Mosque Road(0.55Km) and these will be undertaken by M/S Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO) and another Local contractor KWED Construction company will beautify Rwebikoona Market parking yard both projects at a cost of UGX. 20 billion for a period of one Year.

Mr.Assy Abirebe the Mbarara city clerk appreciated USMID projects as it has contributed much to the development of infrastructure in the City .He said during USMID Phase I the then Mbarara municipality had 5.2KM of road rehabilitated

Gumisiriza Kyabwisho the division mayor Mbarara city North applauded the development as it will foster development in the city.

The mayor Mbarara City Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi appreciated the Commissioning but decried lack of bridges in Mbarara city. Kakyebezi cited Katete Bridge which connects Nyamitanga and Mbarara city which he said needs serious intervention by ministry of works before residents drown in River Rwizi.

In Mitooma—

The Mitooma district deputy speaker Grenford Mucunguzi aka Kapota has tasked the District Education Officer Ms. Peace Barungi to produce the long awaited mock results or else further action is taken.

According to Kapota, parents were highly charged for mock exams where each candidate had to pay ten thousand shillings.

He added that it is therefore shameful to find that the results of the very exams have never surfaced to date.

“Action must be taken in case those results are not released as soon as possible,” Kapota concluded.

However, Peace Barungi the Mitooma DEO told www.mknewslink.com that the mock results are ready and she wants to release them during the meeting of head teachers.
She noted that they have proposed Tuesday next week but they are still waiting for the approval from district top leaders to see whether they will be available.
She assured the Mitooma deputy speaker Grenford Mucunguzi Kapota that he should stay calm, results are ready and will be released on the proposed date.
She advised him to always consult relevant authorities before running to media and other irrelevant practices.

HOIMA:
Police in Hoima is investigating circumstances under which a secondary school teacher was murdered and dumped by an unidentified people along Kaiso – Tonya road.

The deceased identified as Mr. Kaahwa Kajabago, a resident of Butanjwa Cell in Hoima West Division Hoima City, and a teacher at St. Mark Secondary School in Hoima was killed on Thursday and dumped at Bujabwe Forest Reserve in Buseruka Sub County in Hoima district.

The cause of his murder hasn’t been established.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was dumped by yet to be identified people in the vehicle {super custom} which was coming from the Hoima side.

It’s alleged that the vehicle made a u-turn back to Hoima after dumping the body. This prompted residents to contact police which evacuated the body to Hoima City Mortuary.

The body was laid at Hoima City Mortuary until yesterday {Friday} and was identified when police were processing to bury it as an unclaimed body.

We couldn’t get a comment from Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson by press time since his known number was unavailable.

The Kabale District Health officer, Dr Gilbert Arineitwe Mateeka, has decried limited knowledge and inaccurate information about HIV/Aids, which he said has exacerbated stigma among people living with the virus.

Dr Mateeka was on Tuesday speaking at Heras Hotel, during a one-day dialogue organized by the USAID local partner Health Service-Kigezi activity. The dialogue was organized, to educate stakeholders about the program dubbed “the HIV Client Literacy Package”, which USAID local partner Health Service-Kigezi intends to roll out.

The program is aimed at improving awareness and utilization of HIV prevention and treatment packages to optimize Client self-care and sustain gains towards ending HIV-TB epidemic by 2030.

Dr Mateeka, observed that limited knowledge coupled with misinformation about HIV/Aids has led to poor HIV care and prevention outcomes. He cited how most people have a tendency of tagging the virus with sexual immorality, which he said has hampered the fight against the scourge.

He also observed that there is need for standard, accurate and complete information on HIV/Aids and TB, to always be cascaded out to the community and workplaces.

The secretary for production, Marketing, Ronald Bagamuhunda, who represented the Kabale District LC5 Chairperson, Nelson Nshangabasheija, commended the USAID local partner Health Service-Kigezi, saying that once “the HIV Client Literacy Package” is rolled out, it will make it easier for the public to access complete information on the prevention of HIV/Aids scourge.

He also called on all stakeholders to use their respective platforms to spread enough information about the fight against HIV virus.

Mbarara City council was last evening turned into a drama Theater of sorts after councillors who had turned up for a council meeting sought adjournment of Council business over Unfulfilled Council resolutions.

The Councillors accuse the executive team led by the city Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi and the City clerk Assy Abirebe of disrespecting Council resolutions and Incompetence.

Mr.Godfery Baryomunsi the Councillor representing Mbarara City North A Constituency,told the Council presided over by speaker Bonny Tashobya Karusya on Monday that they have now passed a total number of 126 Council resolutions but to their dismay only four resolutions have been so far implemented.

This, he says, has crippled service delivery in Mbarara city with their voters questioning their roles as councillors.

“We are Honorable councillors we are voted to come and be the voice of our people ,so we have decided that the Council business should stop here until further notice”Baryomunsi explained.

This comes at a time when Mbarara city council executive team is struggling to implement 126 resolutions Which include putting in place an action plan for River Rwizi , Harmonising of routes and stages within the taxi park by engineering ,works and transport department through consultation with the ministry of works ,An internal policy on enforcement of the fees specifying the process of impounding , resolving disputes and confirmation of payment drafted by stakeholders under the leadership of commercial office among others and only four resolutions have been so far fulfilled.

In her submission,Priscah Mulongo the deputy Mayor Mbarara city blasted Councillors roasting the executive Team over unfulfilled resolutions to be cheerful of the so far fulfilled resolutions and stop blame games.

“As the executive we are there and we are working ,we have been able to title most of the council lands, Constructed several roads, only that we need an extraordinary Council session to aveil what we have been able to achieve”Mulongo explained.

Mrs.Betty Tigefera a councillor representing the elderly conquered with the deputy Mayor and called for an extraordinary Council session after two months to carryout an audit of the so far fulfilled resolutions.

The Mbarara City Speaker,Mr. Bonny Tashobya Karusya,urged the executive team and the City clerk to formally compile a detailed report indicating the resolutions so far achieved before the next Council session .

“These undone resolutions it is too much, this is not a casino hall that councillors have to always deliberate yielding no results,am adjourning this Council to the the next session” Tashobya

explained.

YONASANI Bankobeza Kanyomozi (81) the former minister of cooperatives and marketing during Obote 2 regime is dead, he breathed his last on Sunday the 28th August at Nakasero hospital in Kampala.

Kaisho Ruzibiza the Ntungamo district Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) Chairman said the party has lost a pillar, the man who was developmental, caliginous and friendly to every body in Ntungamo and the nation at large!

He noted that he’s going to connect with his boss the UPC party president Hon. Jimmy Akena-Obote and other UPC officials in Kampala to ensure that Hon. Kanyomozi gets a decent send off! Adding that The day of the burial will be communicated.

The former Bushenyi South Member of Parliament (1980-1985) was born on 29th June 1941. He’s son late Bankobeza who was a resident and born of Rwashamaire town council in Kajara- Ntungamo district.

He went for his junior secondary education at Mbarara High School and later went to Ntare School where he completed his A’level in 1959, and later went to University at London school of economics and social science (LSE) in 1966 where he graduated with a bachelors degree and later went for masters degree. In 1969 he also studied Managerial economics at Cass business school.

Hon. Kanyomozi also served as Council Member (CM) representing Kajara county during the National Resistance Council (NRC) which was chaired by President Yoweri Museveni as Speaker of the 5th Parliament of Uganda from 1986-1995.

He also served as National Chairman of Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) replacing Prof. Patrick Rubaihayo, he was appointed by then UPC President Mama Miria Kalule Obote.

Hon. YB. Kanyomozi served as Member of Parliament for East African legislative Assembly (EALA) for two terms.

He has been the Director Community Management Services (CMS) a consultancy firm operating in Uganda House (UPC headquarters, 10th floor).

In 2011 when Ntungamo town council attained a municipality status, Hon. Kanyomozi contested for area Member of Parliament seat but didn’t go through! But remained on the ground with his people.

He has been one of the church development pillars for South Ankole Diocese, and always supporting church projects.
