MAN COMMITS SUICIDE IN KIKUUBE OVER DEBTS

Police in Kikuube district is investigating the circumstances under which a man committed suicide after allegedly being overwhelmed by debts
The deceased has been identified as Derick Tumwesige, mid 20’s, a resident of Kyabatalya Cell in Buhimba Town Council Kikuube district.
The gruesome incident happened on Wednesday at around 2pm.
According to Ronald Murungi an eyewitness, Tumwesige was discovered by the maternal aunt dangling on the rope inside his rented room in the same town council.
‘’His aunt was searching for him since morning, his phone was available but no one was responding. He was found by the aunt dangling on the rope in his rented room,’’ he explained.
Murungi also told our reporter that since he didn’t leave any note behind, they don’t know the main cause of committing suicide.
It’s alleged that for a couple of days, the deceased said that he was overwhelmed by the debts.
‘’Few days back he wanted commit suicide citing of many debts, but we don’t know the exactly reason why he committed suicide,’’ the source said.
The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson ASP Julius Allan Hakiza said he is yet to get the details of the deceased.
‘’I’m yet to get the details of the deceased, but the rate at which people are committing suicide is worrying, there need for the intervention by the social workers,’’ he said.
Last week, four people committed suicide in Masindi district in a space of seven days.
