In Kabale—

President Yoweri Museveni has advised the people of Kabale district to refrain from smuggling goods into Rwanda and instead transact goods in formal business.

President Museveni said, “Greetings to you, people of Kabale! Do you still smuggle goods into Rwanda and sell on the black market? If not, I thank you Bakiga for stopping the vice of smuggling. The border is now officially open.”

The President made the remarks while addressing the people of Kabale yesterday at the border town of Katuna and Kabale municipality on arrival from the Rwandan Capital, Kigali, where he had gone to join others Heads-of- State that had convened to attend the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). He travelled to and from Rwanda by road.

At Katuna border post, the President was received by the Minister of State for Transport, Fred Byamukama, the Minister of State for Industry and area MP, David Bahati; the UPDF 2^nd Division Commander, Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, Kabale district, RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma, the Kabale LCV Chairman, Nelson Nshangabasheija; UNRA contractors and border post officials among others.

H.E Museveni urged the people to put into practice the objectives of Parish Development Model (PDM) as the Government has outlined to eradicate poverty in their individual homes.

“The scheme will benefit people who are on small landholding.”

The President also told them that respective area MPs in the country will sensitize their people on how the fund will be accessed in their constituencies.

“The other source of funds for your local communities is the Emyooga funds. This also supports people on small landholdings,” he said.

He also thanked the people of Kabale for exhibiting overwhelming political support to the NRM party.

In Ntungamo—

The Ntungamo district New Vision Chief Correspondent Rwambuka Mugisha aka MC Rwambs’ has been elected unopposed as Media Representative for Ntungamo municipal development forum (MDF).

The Ntungamo Municipal Principal Community development Officer and MDF Coordinator Vincent Mpora presided over the elections and declared Rwambuka Mugisha as winner following the resolution by the majority of Journalists and Media Practitioners who fronted him as their suitable candidate to represent them for the next 3 year’s second term of office, because of his capability and potentiality!

This was on 22nd June 2022 at Ntungamo Municipal council grounds.

Other sectors that elected their representatives include; Non Governmental Organization (NGOS) to be represented by Isaac Muzoora- Kontabule, Boda bodas group to be represented by Alex Kasajja and Patience Natukunda was elected to represent People with disabilities (PWDs).

Ntungamo Municipality MDF Coordinator Mpora Vincent said that other sectors/ stakeholders are going to choose their representatives on 28/6/2022 and the exercise is to end on 30th June 2022.

He further explained that after the elections of all 25 stakeholders in Ntungamo Municipality there will be a training which will be conducted by officials from the ministry of lands, housing and urban development led by the MDF national coordinator Stephen Bogere who will also preside over the election of the Ntungamo MDF core executive.

After the elections, the elected MDF Media Representative Rwambuka Mugisha hosted his fellow Journalists at victory party which was held at Ntungamo’s Ariho Hotel where eats and drinks were served in plenty and speeches uttered by some campaign agents!

The Daily monitor’s Ntungamo correspondent Perez Rumanzi thanked his fellow Journalists for accepting and elected Rwambs’ with overwhelming support to enable him serve his second and last term of office as their MDF media representative- at Ntungamo Municipal council.

Elliot Kabangira Magande the Station Manager Radio Ankole thanked the Ntungamo media fraternity for showing a unity spirit and agreed to support and elect unopposed Rwambuka Mugisha the senior Journalist working with the Vision Group and urged them to keep that good working relationship!

Bethel FM-Radio Station Manager Van-degrass Dede Nshutaminabo promised to keep that team work spirit that started with other different media houses operating in Ntungamo district.

In Masindi—

Leaders in Masindi District on Monday launched spot improvement of district roads that will cost 960 million shillings. The spot improvement of 20 kilometers is across the district.

While launching the project at Kiruli Trading Center, Hon. Ronald Akugizibwe Aled, the Member of Parliament for Buruli Constituency, disclosed that the project is funded by the Ministry of Works and Transport.

He urged the community members to use the rehabilitated roads to increase production thus improve their household income.

The politician assured residents that other roads in sorry state will be rehabilitated.

The Force Account Manager for Western Region at the Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr. Tibihika Isaac told the locals that the ministry will support the district to rehabilitate the six roads in the district.

The roads are Pakanyi -Nyakarongo road 8.2km, Kitamba Kijunjubwa road 5.2km, Kitengule-Ipedi-Kimina road 0.7km,Bulima-Byebega road at Kyawinyi swamp 1/2km,Katagurukwa-Kinumi road 2.9km and Kinumi-Kisindizi road 2.5km totalling to 20kilometers.

The Masindi District Chairperson, Mr. Byaruhanga Cosmas expressed excitement and appreciated the government through the Ministry of Works and Transport for rehabilitating the roads which are in sorry state.

In Masindi—-

Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja the Prime Minister of Uganda has ordered the striking government teachers to resume work.

She sounded this on Sunday evening during the fundraising for the construction of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Kyatiri in Masindi district.

Nabbanja disclosed that she will meet the Uganda National Teachers Union {UNATU} leaders on Tuesday {tomorrow} to harmonize the situation.

“President Museveni has told me to meet the UNATU leaders and harmonize the situation. I will meet them on Wednesday, and if they fail to act we shall see the next step,’’ she asserted.

The leader of government businesses further said that the government doesn’t have money to increase salaries for all civil servants at the same time.

“We have increased the salary of medical workers. We can’t increase it for all civil servants at the same time because the government doesn’t have money,’’ she said.

Nabbanja however assured teachers that they will be considered and therefore asked them to resume work.

In Kanungu—

Police in Kanungu are hunting for unknown thugs suspected to have robbed a vehicle from Kihihi based businessman after stabbing him on Saturday night.

According to the Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson 4 suspected thugs attacked Charles Kwiringira who was driving his car registration number UAQ 209Q in Kashoojwa village.

Kwiringira narrated that the suspected thugs, one of whom was dressed in a uniform similar to that of UPDF equipped with a panga intercepted him at his gate and a scuffle ensued but he together with family members managed to flee leaving the car behind.

Kwiringira said that the suspected thugs were determined to finish him but he fought them off with support from his domestic workers.

According to John Kashumba the Kihihi police station OC, when the Police got information that the suspected robbers were fleeing using the newly constructed Kihihi – Nyamirama – Rukungiri road, they contacted their counterparts and deployed heavily along the major routes.

It’s at this point that the OC Police in Nyamirama, Olargui Innocent together with his team joined the chase and intercepted the thugs at Bikurungu in Rukungiri District where the thugs abandoned the car and fled.

Police recovered sharp panga, sticks, a phone and some documents which the Police hope to use in tracking down the suspects while the vehicle was taken to Nyamirama Police Station.

OC CID Kanungu Arthur Twinamasiko has confirmed that the case of aggravated robbery has been registered at Kihihi Police Station under reference CRB 78/2022 to help in investigations.

In Rubanda—

The Outspoken Priest of Kitanga Parish in Kabale Catholic Diocese Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda has accused Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira of betraying Ugandans by defending the recent parliamentary controversial expenditures.

Fr. Gaetano who is also the Chairperson of the Inter Religious Council of Uganda -IRCU, Kigezi Region was addressing journalists during his weekly press conferences at his office in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District.

His address was in reaction to Hon Prossy’s statements made before the media in which the parliamentary commissioner defended parliament’s expenditure on two cars worth 2.9 billion for the Speaker and her Deputy.

The two Mercedes Benz Cars procured from the U.S have since attracted ridicule from the public as many people regard it as wasteful expenditure.

“Let people not confuse the country that we are buying the Rt. Hon. Anita Among or Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa New Cars. These Cars belong to the parliament of Uganda, and they will not leave office with them. Those two have been driving better cars,” said Prossy.

Hon. Prossy also revealed that parliament would buy or build residential houses for the Speaker and Deputy speaker in order to reduce their expenditure on rent.

However, Fr. Gaetano said such expenditure was not necessary especially at a time when Ugandans are struggling to survive through one of the worst economic crises in history, with prices of essential commodities rising each day.

“It’s unfortunate that Prossy has opted to advocate for the welfare of MPs and forgotten the plight of her electorate at home. While other women are being arrested for protesting against the skyrocketing commodity prices, Prossy, their fellow woman, is advocating for continued wasteful expenditure of tax payers’ money,” said Fr, Gaetano.

The Priest said Prossy’s statements were a sign of betrayal to all Ugandans and particularly Rubanda District voters who expected her to help them survive the current economic crisis by advocating for reduced Government expenditure on unnecessary items such as new cars and Houses.

“I have seen mothers braving the scorching sun every day, vending items like yellow bananas, mangoes, Irish potatoes, among others so that they can provide for their families,” added Fr. Gaetano.

The development comes after Parliament also allocated themselves a whopping 193 billion as additional funding for their allowances. this was reportedly done to help them cope with the skyrocketing prices of commodities.

In Kabale—

Kabale District Residents have called upon their leaders to save them from the very poor roads which are hindering developments in their area.

This was revealed during the survey of a 7 km Buhara Rwene Road that connects two parishes of Buhara and Rwene_ Kaniga which is a border of Uganda and Rwanda in Kabale District by Officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Speaking to our reporter while on survey, Residents of kijonjo, Kashakyi A,Bugarama,Muruhanga,Kigugo,Bwanjonjo,Kashakyi B, Ruhita, Rwene Trading Center and Kiringa  cells who are the beneficiaries of this project said the situation would become worse when it rained.

They added that the transport has been shooting up during rainy seasons and picking up a patient from Buhara Sub County has been difficult.

Annest Kamusingize, Justin Tukamuhabwa and Enid Tugume, all casual laborers, said that they have been struggling with transportation of their goods and the patients.

They added that the ambulance has been overcharging them during rainy seasons due to the poor state of roads

The councilor LCV representing Buhara Sub county Hillary Byamukama requested for more support on Kabanyonyi-Bugarama road, Nyarutonjo Rwamishekye Ruboroga road, Muyebe Buhara Rwene road and Karubanda- Kamabale road.

The Kabale District woman MP Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira who doubles as chairperson Roads committee said that the Roads in the Sub county Most Especially Buhara Nyakyonga road was in very poor state.

She pledged to do more lobbying for road renovation and that the road is going to have culverts for the running waters

Atwakire said that she always presents the poor state roads on the floor of the Parliament.

She called upon the residents to embrace road construction for the benefits of the sub county.

She however said that there shall not be compensation to the affected gardens alongside the road.

In Kisoro—-

Police in Kisoro are investigating circumstances under which a priest of Muhavura Diocese knocked dead a 76 years old pedestrian.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson identified the deceased as Vida Nyirasaba 76 year old a resident of Gahinga cell Nyakabande sub county Kisoro district who died instantly.

Maate told www.mknewslink.com that the deceased was knocked by motor vehicle Registration number UAV 496E Toyota Land Cruiser Army driven by Rev. Can. Phillip Muhire the Sub-Deacon of Muhavura Diocese.

The accident occurred on 29^th May, 2022 at about 1800hrs near Gishorora COU along Nyakabande Bubaga road.

Scene was visited by ASP Solomon Alele OC traffic Kisoro, body taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem and the motor vehicle Parked at CPS Kisoro pending IOV inspection.

According to the scene and eye witnesses, the driver of the said motorvehicle was turning a corner as he headed to Gishorora COU and he failed, forcing the motor vehicle to move in reverse and knocked the deceased who was also walking to the same church.

The case of accident was registered at Kisoro Central Police station under reference number TAR: 33/2022.

In Kabale—

Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances under which a Rwandan lady was beaten to death.

It is alleged that she was beaten by her husband’s relatives after they found him lying at the bed with big injury on the head, blood oozing from the injury and mouth.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson the deceased Mukapasika has been a wife to Apollo Tuhabwe of Rwara cell, Bigaga parish, Butanda Sub County, Kabale district who is also the dead now.

It’s alleged that Tuhabwe Apollo divorced his first wife Ndikubwimana Mariam during the year 2017, whom they had stayed together for many years.

Maate said that during September 2021, the deceased decided to marry Mukapasika but was always accused of cheating on him.

On the 22 May, 2022 at around 2100hrs, the said Mukapasika made an alarm that her husband Apollo had been killed which attracted relatives and neighbors to go to their home for rescue.

On reaching at home, they found him lying at the bed with a big injury on the head, blood oozing from the injury and mouth.

He was unconscious and these people decided to rush him to hospital but on their way at Bigaga trading centre, he passed on and had to return home.

On reaching at home, they started questioning the said Mukapasika accusing her to have been the cause of his death because of her high sexual urge, hence lynched her.

Homicide team from Cps Kabale visited the scene, was documented and Postmortem was done on the two bodies at the scene and Inquiries continue.

In Rukungiri—

Police in Rukungiri are hunting for unknown assailant(s) who allegedly cut to death a 27 year old man.

The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate identified the deceased as Kennedy Arinaitwe, a resident of Kakibaya village southern ward Kebisoni town council in Rukungiri district.

It’s alleged that, in the morning hours of 22/05/2022, the deceased’s body was discovered alongside the highway of Rukungiri Ntungamo at Rwabigangura cell Eastern ward Kebisoni town council with a deep cut on his neck.

Scene was visited and documented, body taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for postmortem.

Maate told journalists that anybody with information that can lead police to apprehend perpetrators, can volunteer so that they are brought to book.

The statement of murder has been registered at Rukungiri central police station under reference number RUK CRB 418/2022.
