There was drama today in Rwishamiro cell, Bwizibwera town council in Mbarara District as two biological brothers fought for their mother’s body.

According to Benon Mwesigye the chairman local Council one for Rwishamiro cell, Patrick Njunaki and John Karagire have not been Seeing eye to eye for the last ten years over land issues.

He however said that later, court intervened into their matter and divided the land in contest into the two.

Mwesigye added that from then the two brothers have maintained their rivalry until the death of their mother.

By the time we wrote this story,the body of the deceased was already buried at John Karagire’s home  .

In Kasanda

Security agencies have so far arrested eight suspects in their efforts to burst the new terror group which has been killing police officers and also stealing their guns across the country

The attacks on police officers have happened in the last four months where six police officers have been killed and their guns taken with the two last incidents happening in the districts of Kiboga and Mityana under Wamala policing region where four police officers were murdered and four guns stolen

According to police the arrested suspects scribes to the new rebel group known as Uganda coalition forces of Change and where recruited from various parts of the country with the aim of overthrowing the current government.

Fred Enanga the police spokesperson while addressing a news conference at police headquarters Naguru yesterday afternoon revealed that the suspects were arrested in joint operations by Crime Intelligence, flying squad and the territorial police in Wamala region, from Swamp area at Kabusi Village Bukuya Town council Kasand district where they have been hiding after running from their camps which they had established at Wabinyira and Kikandwa in Mityana District.

Fred Enanga noted that the arrested suspects include Makumbi Mosh alias Engineer who was the field commander a resident of Wakiso, Lugembe Stuart Savior alias Kuffa Tteeka aged 32 a resident, Mulindwa Julius aged 32 a resident of Bukerere Wakiso and Masembe John Masifu aged 28 a resident of Kassanda

Other suspects include Lwamireirwe Paul ages 19 a resident of Kisoro, Ssenyonga Bob aged 25 a resident of Rakai, Nabukenya Teopisita aged 50 years a resident of Namayumba and Matovu Sylvester aged 21

Enanga noted that during the arrest of these suspects two guns which were stolen from Ssekanyonyi in Mityana and Nakasozi in Kiboga were recovered with other exhibits.

Enanga noted that by the time of their arrests, the suspects had planned to carry out attacks on Ssekanyonyi police station which they had surveyed.

Meanwhile Fred Enanga noted that Makumbi Mosh alias Engineer the commander availed the investigating team with vital information of their sponsors whom they are pursuing now.

Fred Enanga also noted that the suspects will be charged with various offenses including four counts of murder of Police officers and aggravated robbery, terrorism among others.

In Masindi—

Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabanja the Prime Minister of Uganda has rubbished allegations that the ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM party rigged by-elections in Kayuga District.

Addressing Journalists on Sunday evening in Masindi district after meeting leaders, Rt. Hon. Nabanja asserted that though they are in the government, they did not decide for the people of Kayuga district on whom to lead them.

Nabanja also noted that she couldn’t campaign for the opposition yet they also have a candidate in the same race. The premiere further noted that all oppositions camped in Kayuga to campaign for their candidates.

The leader of government businesses said that oppositions have mastered the techniques of rigging elections adding that they intimidate people, ballot stuff when they don’t have supporters in the area, and after ballot stuffing, when someone notices them, they start shouting and for that case, some people were arrested.

‘’If we wanted to rig elections, why did we win by 400 votes only, after the campaign I went back to Kampala people of Kayuga are the ones who decided who should lead them,’’ She noted.

In the just concluded by-elections in Kayuga district, Jennifer kyobutungi the Returning Officer Kayunga district declared Andrew Muwonge of NRM as the winner emerging with 31,830 votes, followed by Harriet Nakweede Kafeero of National Unity Platform who obtained 31,380 votes.

Jinja road based Victoria University continues to take the education sector by storm. In our previous edition, we told you how the swiftly progressing University had acquired a charter from NCHE, now we’re here again to inform you that it has been granted EON-XR Centre which is actually the first-ever in Uganda…yes you read that right, no University has ever acquired this!.

The above milestone was announced yesterday by an innovative ‘now professor’ Dr. Lawrence Muganga the University Vice-Chancellor who was addressing the media shortly after the CEO Forum held at the University’s Auditorium.

Muganga who was smiling ear to ear revealed to our reporter that with this new technology, the university lecturers will be able to create interactive and immersive Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality lessons without needing any coding or advanced technological knowledge.

The lessons can then be distributed to their audience of students on common devices ranging from smartphones to laptops to publicly available headsets.

”This is something that we as Victoria University can’t stop celebrating, and Ugandans should surely join us to celebrate this achievement…can you imagine a student now sitting in his swanky room and attend to lectures, view desktop displays, and interact with fellow students just using the magic in the headset?,” noted jubilant Muganga.

EON-XR is preparing millions of students, employees, and citizens for the present and future while both replacing and aiding traditional training and teaching methods in dozens of global universities including Victoria University.

Muganga further told us that setting up the EON-XR centre will require $15millions but was quick to add that no need for Ugandans to worry about where such huge funding will come from saying that they have already received a grant from a couple of organizations globally but mainly EON reality from Singapore to set up the centre.

”We are happy to be the first university approved to host an EON XR Reality Center, which means our students will be able to teleport themselves into a classroom in New York, London, Abuja or anywhere in the world,” added Muganga.

Meanwhile, taking you back to the CEOs Forum held under the theme; ”Technology and Future of Work” attended by Minister of Science and Technology Monica Musenero, Jumia Boss Ron Kawamara and NCHE’s Director for Research Dr.Norah Murira, Ugandans most especially students were encouraged to embrace IT-related courses to fit in this fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) workspace.

”Ugandans must switch to digital technology and bury analog ways of doing things that’s what will lead us into the first world,” said Minister Musenero adding that the government is soon kicking off enhancement and rolling out of technology centres with some financial support.

Musenero who commended Victoria University for currently giving a bloody nose to other Universities in the technology world called upon Ugandans to stop being consumers but be producers noting that currently technology is increasing poverty among Ugandan youths instead of earning from it.

”Our youths today spend a lot of money on MBs, phone charging among other expenses on top of earning nothing from the technology that is turning other countries super powers,” said Musenero adding that change of mindset is something youths should deal with to benefit from the technology.

Meanwhile, Victoria University recognized the panelists with certificates of appreciation for attending the forum and on a special note recognized singer Sheebah Karungi for using innovation to change the life of young girls battling menstrual challenges like stigma, lack of pads among others.

Emotional Sheebah delivering her speech asked the government to freely offer pads to girls in their menstrual cycles before wondering why condoms are free moreover when sex is an option but can’t offer pads freely as a mechanism to curb escalating school dropouts.

”Ever since I launched Holic Pads 2yrs ago, I and my team have travelled to a couple of districts in Uganda but we were shocked when we found girls in Karamoja sitting on the soil to menstruate and we actually learnt that it’s where men find them to rape them,” revealed Sheebah.

Sheebah later launched a campaign dubbed, ”Keep a girl in school” by buying 12 packets of Holic pads for 12 months at only UGX 36000. Victoria University supported the campaign and bought pads for 100 girls.

In Rukungiri—

More than 400 families in Bwambara sub- county Rukungiri district are reportedly infested with Jiggers.

The mostly affected are Rushebeya, Kateramo,Kempazi among others all in Kikongi parish Bwambara sub- county in Rujumbura county Rukungiri district.

John Tumushabe, the Chairperson Lc1 Kateramo Cell in Kikongi Bwambara sub -county Rukungiri District said that he has been receiving such cases from members in his cell.

“I have been receiving complaints about families with people affected by Jiggers. Yes it true we have Jiggers in our area,” Tumushabe said.

Tumushabe added that” together with Members of the Village Health Team we have sensitized the affected homes about improved hygiene but they have failed to copy with proper sanitation and home cleanliness”

Tumushabe put the blame on parents who don’t mind about their children since they’re the most affected ones.

“Parents are the ones to be blamed for this because they have failed to monitor the hygiene of their children. Some children sleep with dirty (unwashed) feet when their parents are there watching” Tumushabe said.

Annet Kyobutungi a VHT in Rushebeya cell said they have sensitized people about hygiene but the problem persisted.

“It is becoming Normal, people no longer mind. Some families no longer care about their wellbeing. As a VHT I have done my role of sensitization but people have totally failed to respond to our call and message” Kyobutungi said.

Kyobutungi added that “in some families, people’s feet and toes are in a sorry state and jiggers have started moving upwards towards the up parts of the body. The situation is worsening and it needs quick intervention from the government”

Moses Mugumya, a resident of Rushebeya cell Kikongi parish Bwambara sub- County revealed that the jigger infestation was first observed about one month ago.

Muguma explained that the jigger victims can neither bath nor feed themselves because they are very weak health wise.

Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri LCV Chairperson said the fight against jigger infestation needs collective responsibility from both locals, religious leaders and security agencies or else it can a serious problem once not fought at an early stage.

“Jiggers are very stubborn, they can even kill a person once they are played with. Therefore we need to fight it seriously and save our people” Kyomukama said.

Jiggers penetrate the human body throw the feet, ankles, elbows and palms, where they suck blood from their host. Heavy infestations without control may lead to serious fibrosis, inflammation, ulceration, death from tetanus infections from open wounds and use of unsterilized sharp objects according to Arthur Mugisha of Nyakibale hospital in Rukungiri municipality.

Most times jiggers are brought about by being surrounded by dirty places and people being unable to clean their houses

In Bushenyi—

Bushenyi District authorities have finally reopened Kabagarame Weekly pork Market and all point joints after two months of closure.

Kabagarame pork market and all pork joints were closed on 30^th Oct. 2021 following an outbreak of African swine fever in sub counties of Ibaare, Kyeizooba and Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality all in Busheyi district

In letter dated 13th.Dec.2021 written by the CAO Goeffrey Banga Nkurunziza, the traders are allowed to reopen Kabagarame weekly pork Market but on shift arrangement.

A two page letter however directed that traders from every sub county should designate only one place where slaughtering of pigs should take place.

The CAO added that all pig owners who intend to slaughter them must  have a letter of ownership from the office of Local Council one.

Pork meat from points of slaughter to joints must be transported in leakage proof containers and all non-edible parts of a pig should be well disposed to minimize the spread of the disease.

“Movement of pigs and products shall be limited to only within the district to avoid cross boarder transmission the disease to other districts,” reads the last part of the letter

The same letter categorically puts it clear that African Swine fever that was reported in Sub counties of Bushenyi has been contained preventing it from spreading to other Sub counties.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson identified the deceased as Gloria Tushabomwe a 36 year old resident of Kabatu village, Kashojwa parish, Rugyeyo Sub County in Kanungu district. It’s alleged that on 13th/12/2021 at unknown time the deceased developed a misunderstanding with her husband Vincent Arinaitwe which prompted him to pick a panga and cut his wife then disappear to yet unknown destination. Maate said that neighbors become suspicious in the morning of 14/12/2021 when they saw the door open very early in the morning and when they checked they saw the deceased lying into the pool of blood with a deep cut in the throat. Police visited the scene where they recovered a killer weapon ( panga) near the dead body . The body was taken to Katate health centre IV  for postmortem as police hunt for the suspect . .

In Sheema—

Sheema district chairman Ms. Jemima Buhanda has expressed concern on how people of Sheema have resisted COVID vaccination.

According to Sheema DHO Dr. Dickens Batwongire, there is a decline in number of people who turn up for COVID vaccination.

Speaking to www.mknewslink.com at Sheema district headquarters, Buhanda wondered whether residents want the government to first buy them meat before they can embrace the vaccination.

The district chairman’s remark follows an incident in Ntungamo where the first 50 people to report for the newly opened market will be given roasted meat.

Meanwhile the DHO urged all people above 18 years to rush for COVID Vaccination specially those interested in Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

He noted that the vaccination exercise for Johnson and Johnson vaccine will start on Thursday 16^th Dec. 2021 till to 22^nd Dec, 2021 at places which will be announced.

In Bushenyi—

Activists born from Kyamuhunga town council led by Andy Yellow have raised a red flag against the Engineer and chairman LCIII Musa Bikanya for being corrupt.

www.mknewslink.com managing editor met Andy yellow carrying a receipt of 2.8 million without an official stamp which is an evidence of stealing money at the town council.

The money in question was meant to build a kiosk at Mashonga trading Centre in Kyamuhunga town council.

According to the town clerk Kyamuhunga Gilbert Boona, the town council received 2.8 million from a person who wanted a kiosk in Mashonga but Gilbert Boona ordered the accountant to give the money back to the trader since it was not allowed as per local government laws.

He said that he was against the decision by the council to allocate the place in question at Mashonga for commercial purpose but rather preferred it as a green belt.

The town clerk added that on the issue of finances getting misused in Kyamuhunga town council especially the Mashonga Kiosks, tarmac road in Butaare among other projects, the head of internal audit Samuel Kumwesiga is already doing an special audit for Kyamuhunga town council which will lead to the next action; whether to push the civil servants or clear them.

According to the LCIII chairman Musa Bikanya, they have abandoned the council resolution to build kiosks at Mashinga trading Centre instead they have agreed to turn the place into a green belt as suggested by the town clerk.

www.mknewslink.com visited the head of internal audit Samuel Kumwesiga and he was told that he is doing a special audit on Kyamuhunga town council and he will produce a report in three weeks’ time.

Samuel Kumwesiga is known for producing professional audit reports; his recent special audit report pinned the former municipal treasurer Jackson Muhwezi Beyendenza who had forged signatures of his bosses and colleagues to steal public money.

He was retired in public interest after anti- corruption court convicted him and asked him to pay back over 200 million shillings.

In Kampala—

Just like other mega projects in Kampala, multibillion Speke Resort Project-Entebbe has started battling hurdles from some ruthless Ugandans whom one would term serial enemies of development.

These enemies, a few days ago spread rumours via their socials alleging that contractors of Speke Resort and Convention Centre were pouring soil in Lake Victoria in Katabi Town Council.

However,  Ruparelia Group of Companies (owners of the project) have trashed the rumors confirming that all the necessary applications process was done and approved by NEMA  hence the project has been operating within the legal confines of the environmental laws.

For our first time readers, Ruparelia Group of Companies are undertaking the project of Speke Resort Entebbe which is being developed at former Ssesse gateway beach.

While addressing media at the project site in Kitubulu in Katabi town council, the company Environment consultant Martin Aryagaruka said the project was approved with conditions of not impacting on the lake and it’s what they have been doing.

In fact, the Managing Director of Ruparelia Group of Companies Mr Rajiv Ruperalia, said whatever is being spread and circulated on social media is propaganda aimed at hindering the project that will enormously benefit the community of Katabi and Uganda as a country.

According to sources, this toxic propaganda was ignited by a lady called Assumpta Nakamya, who circulated the video online spreading false accusations with no documented proof hence spoiling the economic opportunities and people’s livelihoods the project will provide.
