In Kanungu

There was grief and fear at Kiruruma Sand Mind in Nyakinoni Sub County after the sand mine buried alive another person 24 hours after its reopening

According a resident who preferred anonymity, the deceased is Hannington Turyamuhebwa a son to Rutagasha of Buhumuriro Cell in Nyakinoni Sub County.

The incident comes barely 24 hours after Kanungu District Security Committee reopened the sand mine and put in place a committee to enforce the strict guidelines that were put in place.

The sand mines were closed by the RDC for 2 weeks until yesterday after two of the miners were killed by the quarries.

Kanungu District Resident Commissioner Hajji Shaffiq Ssekandi Sengoba confirmed to our reporter that Turyamuhebwa had died in illegal sand mining.

Ssekandi added that it’s quite unfortunate that even after they have oriented these people on what to do, others have shamelessly disregarded their advice.

In Bushenyi—

Police in Bushenyi are holding a 36 year old born again pastor for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 14 year old girl.

The suspect Apostle Solomon Kushemererwa is a resident of Tankhill Bushenyi town and his wife is a Pastor at Starlight International worship Centre Nyakabirizi Bushenyi Ishaka municipality.

According to Martial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi police Spokesperson, Solomon was arrested after father of the victim Nazario Bafusana a resident of Nyabikyerere cell central division Bushenyi Ishaka municipality reported a case of defilement at Bushenyi police station.

SP Tumusiime told www.mknewslink.com reporter that the girl who was allegedly defiled in March 2021 is currently one month pregnant according to hospital results.

He added that the suspect will appear before court anytime from now to answer to charges of defilement.

In Sheema—-

Sheema District authorities led by the District Veterinary Officer Joseph Amanya have suspended all markets that deal in cattle and its products.

Amanya noted that they decided to suspend all cattle markets after the samples that were taken to Entebbe for examination turned out to be Foot and mouth positive.

Sheema district was first put under livestock quarantine following the suspected cases of foot and mouth disease that were detected in three farms in Kyagyenyi subcounty in the parishes of Muzira and Kagongi.

Sheema RDC Frank Kyerere noted that they had come to the decision following a letter from the permanent secretary of the ministry of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries notifying them of suspected foot and mouth in the district, asking them to take action.

Sheema is the second district in greater Bushenyi to be put under total livestock quarantine  after Bushenyi district.

Foot and mouth disease has so far been detected in the districts of Mbarara, Kiruhura,Kazo ,Ibanda, Bushenyi and lately Sheema.

In Kisoro—

Christians at St. John’s Rurembwe church of Uganda in Nyarusiza sub county in Kisoro district were yesterday left in shock after one of their colleagues collapsed and died during Sunday Service.

The deceased has been identified as Mauda Nyirakaruhije a 92 year old, a resident of Rukeri Village Nyarusiza Kisoro district.

The eyewitnesses who had also attended the service told www.mknewslink.com that Mauda collapsed and died instantly after giving offertory at around 2:30pm.

Rev. Tugume who was presiding over the service narrated that Mauda joined other Christians for thanksgiving, but unfortunately on her way back to her seat, she fainted and died shortly in the church compound where wardens had rushed her for fresh air as they prepared to take her to the hospital.

The Reverand described the deceased as a good Christian who loved God and lived an exemplary life.

In Mbarara—

Residents of Kiyanja cell, Kamukuzi, Mbarara city have finally retrieved the body of one of their own who drowned yesterday.

The deceased Edgar Nimusiima is a 20 year old business man who has been dealing in ginger around Mbarara but hails from Rubare Ntungamo district.

According to residents, they notified the police who swung into action but failed to retrieve the body thus they mobilized and paid 300.000 Uganda shillings to a witch doctor who later helped them to retrieve the deceased’s body.

Residents challenged the government to train the police marine force on how to handle such cases.

The body of the deceased was later handed to Police before taking it for postmortem at Mbarara Regional referral hospital.

By the time we filed this story, police were yet to comment on the matter.

In Hoima

Two senior police officers have not been produced in court four months after the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) sanctioned charges of corruption and abuse of office against them.

The cases against the two officers stem from alleged theft of fuel and materials for construction of Kabaale International Airport in Hoima City.

The two officers, whose names have been withheld pending their appearance in court, one at the rank of a superintendent of police and the other an assistant superintendent of police, previously, worked in the Albertine region.

Jacquelyn Okui, the DPP spokesperson, confirms that they sanctioned the charges against the two police officers in December 2020.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga referred our reporter to his CID counterpart, Charles Twine, when asked to explain about the delay in arraigning the accused officers in court.

Twine did not respond to our inquiries regarding the stalled prosecution of the case registered in police under file number CID HQTRS E/127/2018.

Information on the police file indicates that Balingonzaki Yosiya, the chairperson of Bukerenge Village in Hoima City, together with the village secretary for information lodged a written complaint with police against the officers on April 7, 2018.

They alleged that the duo at the time connived with thieves to frustrate the construction of Kabaale International Airport in Hoima City.

Police in Sheema have arrested 5 residents of Rwabuza trading center, Rwabuza ward Shuuku Town council Sheema district over gambling.

The suspects have been identified as Dan Kashara, Bright, Nimuload Nagasha, Zendi and Natamba all residents of Shuuku Town council Sheema South.

The 5 were arrested yesterday Tuesday 13^th April 2021 after they were found playing cards instead of working and police say they are the people who terrorize others at night.

Fred Borekyererwa chairman LC1 Kamweru village told www.mknewslink.com that residents have been complaining that these people who only concentrate on cards instead of working are the thieves at night.

Some of the residents who talked to www.mknewslink.com narrated that they are now relieved following the arrest though others escaped.

All the suspects were taken to Kishabya police station for further management.

In Kagadi/ Kakumiro

Albertine police are holding seven suspects for their alleged involvement in armed robberies.

The suspects were picked up from various places in Kagadi and Kakumiro districts.

They are said to be part of the thugs who have been robbing mobile money agents in the two districts.

Deo Obura, the Albertine regional Police Commander-RPC says the suspects whose particulars have been withheld by police for fear of jeopardizing police investigations were arrested in a joint operation mounted by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF and the police over the weekend.

Obura notes that despite the arrest of some of the suspects, they have not recovered any firearm. He, however, says the suspects are cooperating with the investigators and soon will recover the firearms.

Statistics at the Albertine region police headquarters indicate that five robberies were recorded in Kagadi and Kakumiro last month alone. In all cases, the thugs would invade villages and put mobile money agents at gunpoint before ordering them to surrender all the money in their possession.

In Kabale—

A 25-year-old pedestrian was yesterday night knocked dead by a speeding vehicle belong to Rubanda District Local Government, on Kabale’s Main Street.

Isaac Ainebyoona was on Sunday night at 8.30Pm knocked by a speeding Ford Ranger double cabin registration number LG 0001-156 belonging to Rubanda District.

The accident happened near Bank of Uganda offices along Kabale-Kisoro road.

Area Police spokesman Elly Maate says the speeding vehicle that was being driven by a yet to be identified driver, knocked Ainebyoona who was trying to cross the road, and killed him instantly.

Maate says the driver tried to escape with the same vehicle but ended up overturning it about 500meters from the scene, after hitting a pavement.

“Police visited the scene, the ill-fated vehicle was towed and parked in Kabale police yard and the body taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” Maate said.

“We are now hunting for the driver who ran away after causing the accident.”

In Rukiga—

Residents of Muhanga Town council have been treated to shock after news broke out that a renowned Church Minister was arrested on allegations of engagement in a Homosexuality act.

Our reporter was able to establish that Mr Enock Nkurunungi, the Butare Church of Uganda Father’s Union leader was allegedly arrested by the Police as he lured a male youth into the act.

Enock Nkurunungi is a resident of Muhanga cell, Muhanga ward in Muhanga Town council, Rukiga district.

A close security source who preferred anonymity revealed to our reporter that Nkurunungi is said to have on several occasions engaged in Homosexuality until luck ran out of his hand on Tuesday when one of the boys he wanted to sleep with informed the police in advance who later arrested him.

“It has always been rumored that he has been frequently engaging in such acts until the Tuesday victim alerted us in advance. The boy told us that upon arrival at the agreed venue, Nkurunungi started romancing him and the Police found him already undressed” the source intimidated to our reporter.

The source further revealed that Mr Nkurunungi was by press time still in detention at Muhanga police station.

Our reporter’s effort to get a comment from either the victim or the suspect was rendered futile since the officials were still engaged in various discussions.

The Rukiga District Police Commander Alberto Ismati told our reporter that he was in Kampala on Official duty and knew nothing about the arrest.
