In Rukungiri

A woman in Rukungiri has been arrested for allegedly strangling and killing her friend.

According to Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate, the deceased Honesta Orikiriza 31 years a resident of Burera cell Ngoma parish Nyakishenyi Sub County Rukungiri district was found in her bed strangled and all her doors closed.

Police said that they arrested Harriet Tumwesigye a friend to the deceased because she (Harriet) was the one who was last seen with her.

Maate confirmed to www.mknewslink.com that Police visited the scene and the body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for post mortem.

He added that Harriet is still in their custody to help in investigations as inquiries into the matter continue.

Today’s youth still face many attitudinal challenges to self-empowerment. Both the problem and the solution begin at home with their parents. Leadership training must start from an early childhood, as these young adults learn to take gradual responsibility for their own decisions. Only through self-determination, can these youth eventually achieve leadership in their respective communities. In addition to parental guidance, society has responsibility to create opportunities for these young adults to exercise good leadership. We must focus on the practice of leadership rather than the theory. Young adults should be given the opportunity to practice what they learn, such as being responsible for designing, organizing, and implementing their own conferences. Yet for many youth leadership implies a broader involvement. We need to encourage youth to pursue their own interests, and help them integrate into their local communities. Ultimately, the establishment of leaders in all aspects of society will eventually improve the lives of all youth and people.

As great leaders it is time for young adults to carry on the torch. Are the youth of Uganda ready to assume the responsibilities? Have they been properly prepared to become the new leaders of tomorrow? Yes I say. As a leader, I have met face-to-face with the best talent that our district Bushenyi has to offer, I have as a leader had the privilege of demonstrating exactly what leadership is. There is no doubt in my mind that they as youth posses the potential to be great leaders. Just look at many personal accomplishments of some youth, and it is clear that we have far exceeded the prior generation. However, my pride and optimism are tempered by the inconsistency in leadership development among youth.  Let’s get out of our comfort zones and put a challenge for our community Bushenyi and Uganda at large .For God &My Country I remain.

In Kisoro

 

Police in Kisoro district are holding a 57 year old man for allegedly killing his wife.

The suspect Gad Niyonzimana, 57 a resident of Gatwe Village, Bunagana Parish in Muramba subcounty in Kisoro district allegedly hit his wife Pofia Nyirabakunzi on the head with a hoe in the wee hour of Thursday 2^nd January 2020.

According to the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate, the victim later died from Mutolere Hospital at around 03:00am.

Maate said that the citizens of the area got alerted, swung in the operation and arrested the suspect who had hidden in the maize plantation then handed him over to Police.

By press time, the body was at Kisoro Referral hospital for postmortem

Police inquiries have already commenced.

In Kisoro

A 35 year old man in Kisoro was on 1 Jan.2020 chopped into pieces by unknown assailants who attacked him from his home.

It is alleged that on 1/1/2020 at around 0250hrs, unknown people attacked homes of Kabeni aged 35, and Bayavuga Pionise both residents of Gakoro village, Sooko parish Kisoro district.

The assailants pulled Kabeni out of his house and started cutting him with the panga which prompted Bayavuga who was being equally attacked to make an alarm that attracted neighbours.

According to Benon Buregeya the area Chairman LCI, the alarm forced the assailants to take off leaving the victim in comma.

The deceased was later rushed to Kisoro hospital by his landlord and unfortunately he breathed his last on arrival.

Elly Maate the Kigezi region police mouth piece confirmed to www.mknewslink.com that they visited the scene of the crime.

He added that so far 5 suspects whose names he could not reveal not to jeopardize investigations have been arrested to assist in the inquiries.

Post mortem was done on the body of the deceased at Kisoro hospital.

In Ntungamo

Police have confirmed death of six people and seven others injured after a vehicle they were traveling on burst a tire along Ntungamo -Kabale highway.

According to the Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira said that the fatal accident occurred yesterday at around 6:30pm at Rubanga in Ntungamo district. 

Police identified the vehicle as registration number UBB 820Z Toyota  a school van belonging to Glory boarding primary school Ntungamo which hit motor cycle registration number UER 363D Bajaj boxer.

A motorcycle operator and his passenger were among those who died on spot.

The deceased and injured persons were not yet identified by names by press time.

Kasasira said that the bodies of the deceased and the injured persons were taken to Rubaare health center IV pending postmortem.

Damaged vehicles were taken to Rubaare police station pending inspection by the Inspector of vehicles.

A hotel that emphasizes Christian values was opened recently in Bushenyi town to cater for both Christians and non Christians.

According to Dr. Benon Musinguzi the director of Faith Country gardens located in Nyamiko cell Nyakabirizi division Bushenyi Ishaka municipality, the hotel has eight rooms and he will soon make them 18.

Dr. Musinguzi a former deputy vice chancellor for Uganda Christian University now retired into business told www.mknewslink.com editor that he hopes to complete the conference hall soon to cater for seminars, workshops among others.

He added that Faith country gardens are mainly for retreats, conferences, workshops. He noted that they are in a cool environment so all those who want a cool environment to rest their minds, should go to Faith country gardens.

Bushenyi Ishaka municipality has many hotels but its only Faith country gardens that emphasize Christianity and has a very cool environment off the main road where one can rest.

Dr. Musinguzi revealed that all his rooms are cottages and are extremely comfortable for sleep.

Police in Rukungiri have arrested three of their officers for shooting dead a 21 Year old boy on Wednesday morning during a patrol.
The deceased identified as Benon Tibesigwa, 21 was a former student of St. Jerome Secondary school in Rukungiri who has been in his senior six vacation and a resident of Kanyeganyegye village in Northern Ward Kebisoni town council Rukungiri district.
The deceased had moved out with a brother identified as Benjamin Turyasingura ,18 and were attending a show at Omukatensani trading center when three police officers attached to Kebisoni police station ; No 44047 Sergent Twebaze David, No 35494 Detective Constable Agaba Busingye, No 049 Special Police Constable Begumisa Baziira who were reportedly on patrol stormed to the venue of the celebrations leading to a confrontation between them and the revelers.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the officers accused the organizers of holding a Music show without informing the police an issue that sparked off bitter reactions from the gathering and the police started firing live bullets.
It is at this time that the deceased was reportedly hit by a stray bullet and died on arrival at Nyakibale referral hospital
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate said that three officers have been arrested pending investigations into the matter.
He added that the deceaseds body had been taken to Rwakabengo Health center III for a postmortem and the guns from the suspects recovered.
The case was registered at Rukungiri police under file number SD Ref; 05/25/12/2019.

The Vice chancellor Bishop Stuart University Prof. Mauda Kamatenesi has called on people not to lose hope because of their poor backgrounds.
She said this yesterday during her marriage Silver Jubilee held in Kibingo, Nyakayojo Mbarara municipality.
She noted that she was born from a poor background but she made it because of Gods grace, hardworking and patience.
The party was well attended by friends and relatives of Prof. Mauda from Kiibanga Kitagata where she is born and relatives of her husband Dr. Balaam from Kibingo Rwampara.

Dr. Balaam called upon their friends and relatives to continue praying for them such that Gods blessings shall keep showering upon them.

The Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda has informed Parliament that the government will probe circumstances under which the Attorney General, William Byaruhanga allegedly, through his company, acquired land which formerly belonged to Nakasero Primary School. Byaruhanga wants to sell the same land back to the government.
Government is going to investigate these allegations. In the next sitting, the government will provide a preliminary report about this matter, we take allegations being made seriously especially ownership of the land, he said yesterday while responding to MP Latiff Ssebaggala who warned that taxpayers are bound to lose billions if government proceeds to buy the land from Byaruhanga.
Sebaggala took to the floor of Parliament requesting both the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and Rugunda to confront Byaruhanga, saying that officials from the Ministry of Finance were planning to award Byaruhangas Pine Investments Co, a contract to sale land for the construction of headquarters AfroExim Bank.
“We are likely to lose tax payers money, the land which they are putting pressure that Government buys was part of Nakasero Primary School land and it was taken under unclear circumstances and they are selling it back to Government,”Ssebaggala said.
This comes amidst media reports that a whistleblower petitioned Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on grounds that Pine Investments Co, was being fronted to win the contract to sell three acres of land to the Ministry of Finance to construct headquarters of Afro Exim bank in Uganda.
This was after officials of Afro Exim Bank approached President Yoweri Museveni with a proposal to build a bank in Uganda, a proposal the president welcomed with a conditionality for the bank to establish its headquarters in Uganda.
Four companies are said to have expressed interest in selling land including; Pine Investments Co which offered 2.2 acres near Nakasero Primary School at $4 million (about Shs14.676 billion) per acre, Vara Enterprise offered 2.4 acres in Bugolobi with the company settling for $3.1 million (about Shs11.366 billion). SGL proposed three acres at Kololo Lugogo bypass at $2.7 million (about Shs 9.896 billion).
Kadaga asked the Prime Minister to assure the country that government wont be duped into buying the land whose ownership is under contention.
“That is a serious allegation if it is true if the land being sold is actually government land at an exorbitant price and possibly involving a member of your cabinet cost. Can you undertake that nothing shall happen, that government will not be forced to buy that land before you come back to this house,’ Kadaga said.

In the latest cabinet reshuffle by President YK Museveni on Saturday 14^th Dec, Buganda sub-region as it wasn’t expected has this time taken the lion’s share of positions followed by Ankole.

They were followed by northern and eastern regions.

Of the 53-man Cabinet list, Buganda, which comprises 20 districts, has 18 ministers and state ministers. They include Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Agriculture Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, Minister for Public Service Muruli Mukasa and Lands Minister Beti Olive Namisango Kamya.

Also on the list are Information Minister Judith Nabakooba, Minister of Trade Amelia Kyambadde, Works minister Gen Katumba Wamala, Minister for Higher Education, Chrysostom Muyingo and Minister for primary education Rose Mary Sseninde. Others are Water State minister Ronald Kubuule, Tourism minister Godrey Kiwanda, Kampala State minister Namugwanya Benah, State minister for Microfinance Haruna Kasolo, State minister for Children Affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and minister for Luweero Triangle Galabuzi Ssozi. The list also includes Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa and presidential advisors Janat Mukwaya and Abdul Nadduli.

Ankole sub-region has 11 Cabinet positions; Education minister Janet Museveni, Security Minister Elly Tumwine, Justice minister Ephraim Kamuntu, Gender minister Frank Tumwebaze, Local Government minister Raphael Magyezi, East African Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire, minister for General Duties in OPM Mary Karooro Okurut, and Science and Technology minister Elioda Tumwesigye. Others are Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa, Karamoja Affairs (John Byabagambi), Molly Kamukama (Minister for Economic Monitoring), Joy Kabatsi (Minister of State for Transport), Mwesigwa Rukutana (Minister of State for Labor) and Bright Rwamirama (Ministry of State of Veterinary Affairs).

Lango and Acholi sub-regions have 10 ministers in the cabinet. They include Internal Affairs minister Jeje Odongo, Refugees minister Hilary Onek, Betty Amongi (Kampala Affairs), and Aceng Ruth (Health). Others Kwiyucwiny Grace (Northern Uganda Minister), Obua Hamson (Sports), Engola Okello (Minister of State for Defence), Oryem Okello (Foreign affairs State minister), Evelyn Anite (Privatization), and Beatrice Anywar (Environment).

West Nile sub-region has five positions in the cabinet. They are Second Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali, State Minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania, State Minister for Finance Gabriel Aridru Adjedra, Minister of State for Energy Simon D’ujanga and Minister for Primary Health Care Joyce Moriku Kaducu.

Busoga has nine ministers in the new cabinet. They include Kirunda Kivejinja as a second Prime Minister and minister without a portfolio, as well as Esther Mbayo Mbulakubuza, the minister for Presidency. The rest includes; Moses Kizige (Karamoja), Gume Ngobi (Cooperatives), Isaac Musumba (Urban development), Aggrey Bagiire (Agriculture) and Persis Namuganza (Lands). Monica Ntege Azuba is an advisory role.

Tooro, Rwenzori and Bunyoro sub-regions have 9 positions in the cabinet. They are Attorney general William Byaruhanga, Minister of Defense Adolf Mwesigye, Minister for Finance (Matia Kasaijja), and Minister of Tourism Tom Butime.

Others are Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs Ernest Kiiza, Minister of State for Veteran Affairs Christopher Kibanzanga, Robinah Nabbanjja (Health general duties), Attorney General (Jackson Kafuzi), Minister of State for Public Service (David Karubanga) and State Minister for Culture (Peace Mutuuzo).

Karamoja sub-region has Sam Lokeris (State Minister for Works) and Simon Lokodo (Minister for Ethics and Integrity).
