THE best footballer in the world has starred at this World Cup — and we’re not talking about Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

THE World Cup in Russia will come to a close when France plays Croatia in the final in Moscow on Sunday.

Here’s everything you need to know about the biggest match the sport’s seen for four years.

France entered the tournament as a short-priced favourite and has lived up to expectations in Russia.

Kicking off its campaign with a 2-1 win over Australia, Les Bleus have continued to give fans back home reason to be optimistic. A 1-0 win over Peru was followed by an uneventful draw with Denmark before arguably the game of the tournament against Argentina in the round of 16.

France weathered plenty of punches from a Lionel Messi-led side but always found a way to hit back, as stunning goals from Benjamin Pavard and Kylian Mbappe secured a dramatic 4-3 win.

It was all class in its 2-0 win over Uruguay in their quarter-final and France booked its spot in the final by defeating a world-class Belgium side 1-0 in the semis.

Croatia has done things the hard way since leaving the group stage. It scored seven goals and conceded just one en route to overcoming Nigeria, Argentina and Iceland before the real challenge started.

The Croatians held their nerve in penalty shootouts against Denmark and Russia with the sides unable to break their deadlocks in regular time. It looked like it would be a case of deja vu in the semi-final against England but an extra-time goal gave them a 2-1 win after 120 minutes.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

France: Teenager Kylian Mbappe has set tongues wagging all tournament. The 19-year-old striker — who joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain on a whopping $295 million transfer fee from Monaco — became the second-youngest player to find the back of the net at a World Cup after Brazilian legend Pele, and has scored three goals for the tournament.

His biggest asset is his pace but he also has plenty of finesse with the ball at his feet, as shown by his spectacular back-flick against Belgium that sent the internet wild.

Midfielder Paul Pogba pulls the strings for his side and constantly looks to thread passes behind defences for Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann. He was the architect of France’s win over Belgium, leading Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to declare: “He played with great maturity. When he had to hold position and keep control of the game, he did.

Croatia: Luka Modric doesn’t find the spotlight stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi command, but the crafty central midfielder deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as them. He has every right to be classed as the best player in the world right now and has been the main reason Croatia has made it this far.

The 32-year-old’s passing range, ability to dissect defences and play teammates into space with inch-perfect through balls and incredible defensive workrate make him the backbone of the Croatian side.

Croatia will be looking for leadership from striker Mario Mandzukic, who has experience playing for some of Europe’s biggest clubs including Bayern Munich and his current home Juventus. He scored the extra-time winner against England and fans will he hoping he repeats the dose against France.

WHO WILL WIN?

With world class midfielder Paul Pogba and on form striker Kylian Mbappe, Antoinne Griezmann, defenders Benjamin Pavard, Rafael Varane and Samuel Umtiti; France will be unstoppable if they hold the likes of Ivan Perisic, Ivan Rakitic, Mario Mandzukic and Luka Modric who look as threat to the les blues.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC BEATS RAFAEL NADAL TO REACH WIMBLEDON FINAL

Novak Djokovic is one match away from a first Grand Slam title since 2016 after an epic five-set win over Rafael Nadal in their delayed Wimbledon semi-final.

Djokovic, who won 6-4 3-6 7-6 (11-9) 3-6 10-8 in five hours and 16 minutes, will face Kevin Anderson on Sunday.

The Serb led by two sets to one when play stopped at 23:02 BST on Friday.

Spain’s Nadal broke twice in the fourth set when it resumed on Saturday, but Djokovic fought back to take his second match point to edge a dramatic decider.

This was Nadal and Djokovic’s 52nd meeting – more than any other two men in the Open era – and the pair did not disappoint as they finally resumed their long-standing rivalry on the Grand Slam stage.

With 29 major titles between them, two of the game’s all-time greats had not faced each other this deep in a major since the 2014 French Open final.

Starting under the Centre Court floodlights, finishing after an overnight break, and packed with quality and drama throughout, it was a match befitting a final never mind a semi-final.

Nadal missed five break points in the decider and was eventually punished as 12-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic reached his first major final since the 2016 US Open.

It was the second longest Wimbledon semi-final, a day after Anderson and John Isner broke the previous record set by Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro in 2013.

“I’m just overwhelmed,” Djokovic, who won Wimbledon in 2011, 2014 and 2015, told BBC Sport.

“It’s very special. It was very clear that very few things separated us. This kind of match is what you live for, you work for.”

TENNIS WOMEN’s FINAL:

ANGELIQUE KERBER BEATS SERENA WILLIAMS TO WIN WIMBLEDON

Angelique Kerber beat seven-time champion Serena Williams to win her first Wimbledon title and spoil the American’s dream comeback as a mum.

The German 11th seed, 30, beat the 23-time Grand Slam champion 6-3 6-3 to add this title to her 2016 Australian Open and US Open crowns.

Williams had been the favourite despite it being only her fourth tournament since giving birth in September.

Kerber dropped to the grass when a netted service return gave her victory.

“It is a dream come true,” said Kerber, who is the first German woman to win the title since Steffi Graf in 1996.

“I know I had to play my best tennis against a champion like Serena. Serena is a great person and a great champion and she is a great inspiration for all of us.”

Williams said she had been happy to simply get to the final so soon into her comeback, adding: “It is obviously a disappointment but I can’t be disappointed. I’m literally getting started.

“To the other mums out there I was playing for you today and I tried. But Angelique played really well. I look forward to continuing to be out there and do what I do best.”

Faded musician Napoleone has been taken off the streets of Jinja, and checked into Butabika Hospital.

The singer was spotted in green uniform looking happy.

His plight was brought to attention after Qute Kaye was caught stealing car lights, apparently because he was broke and under the influence of alcohol. When Qute Kaye got assistance from sympathizers,  Chameleone asked his fans and other artists to also help Napoleone.

Napoleone sang a hit song, ‘No Money’ in the early 2000’s.

NTV’s Flavia Tumusiime recently got engaged to fellow media personality,  Andrew Kabuura.

The curvy TV personality has cleared the air on where she wants to spend her honeymoon when she finally walks down the aisle with her lover.

Flavia hinted about her dream honeymoon destination during a “Q and A” session with her fans on her Instagram platform.

 

When asked about which country she would go to for her honeymoon, she majestically replied with the Uganda flag.

GHANAIAN SINGER MAGNOM COMING TO UGANDA

Since last year when we saw the much anticipated concert featuring Nigerian Singer Wizkid come to pass, we have not seen any other West African artiste performing in Uganda. This has been long until this week when the good news was confirmed that Magnom who is a Ghanaian singer and producer is coming to Uganda.

Born Joseph Bulley, Magnom will be headlining the DJ Snap Off Party that will take place at Club Guvnor on July 20. It will be the second time Magnom the singer will be performing in East Africa. Last year, he performed in Kigali, Rwanda and Uganda will be the second East African country he is visiting.

Although the Singer has many songs, in Uganda, he is famous for two songs My Baby featuring Joey B and Sika featuring Sarkodie. His other songs include Knack, Overfeed Me, Oheema and Bam Bam among others.

Singer Tugume Wycliffe alias Ykee Benda was one of the lucky artistes to feature on the official world cup song by Jason Derulo titled “Colours”.

News  indicates that Ykee Benda has finally silenced critics, who were all over him for failing to appear at the World cup opening ceremony as he had promised.

Ykee Benda will jet to Russia on Friday and he will perform alongside one of the world’s best RnB artistes, Jason Derulo at the closing ceremony on Sunday.

WORLD CUP POWER RANKINGS:
1) Belgium (up 4)
Would anyone have stood a chance against Belgium’s first-half evisceration of Brazil? Their front three were irresistible and in the process answered the lingering questions about Roberto Martínez’s ability to mastermind success on this stage. Martínez got his set-up spot on and, if he is similarly tuned into France’s weaknesses, his team has an outstanding chance of making the final – although Didier Deschamps will spy some susceptibility at the back, particularly when faced with pace. There will never be a better opportunity for this set of players, many of them at or approaching their peak, to confirm the promise they have held for years.
2 France (=)
In the end France were comfortable against Uruguay, playing with a toughness and discipline that looked the hallmark of potential champions. It is still impossible to ignore the thought that they are playing within themselves, though, and more moments like those Kylian Mbappé served up against Argentina will probably be required against Belgium, in what could be a scintillating shootout between the tournament’s best counterattacking sides. France have a feel of a team that can raise their game as the stakes get higher.
3) England (up 4)
If it is not coming home quite yet then it is, at least, packing its suitcase and preparing a picnic for the journey. The oddity about England is that, to this point, they have not had to sparkle much but that hardly matters. They saw Sweden off with a confidence alien to anyone who has watched recent failures through their fingers and the sense that there is more to come may work in their favour. Croatia will certainly make them work harder off the ball but England have a confidence and momentum that could take them all the way now.
4) Croatia (down 1)
It is bit of a theme among those remaining but Croatia are yet to completely convince and, as they sweated on a second successive shootout win on Saturday night, the ease with which they disposed of Argentina in the group stage looked a distant memory. The euphoria turned up several notches though and that will, presumably, keep energy levels high before they face an England team they will fancy beating. Their technical quality in midfield is as good as anything remaining in the tournament but, as Russia showed, a brisk tempo might cause them difficulty.
5) Russia (up 3)
Stanislav Cherchesov’s team exited in heartbreaking fashion but can hold their heads high. The applause they received after Ivan Rakitic’s winning penalty in Sochi was certainly a level of farewell they could not have expected at the start of the World Cup and it was well earned. Russia only produced one mediocre showing, against Uruguay in what was essentially a dead rubber, and Cherchesov impressed in mixing up his tactics throughout – sitting off against Spain but opting to attack Croatia. In Denys Cheryshev they had a winger who produced some of the summer’s most spectacular moments.
6) Brazil (down 5)
Few saw Brazil’s first-half performance against Belgium coming and it brought about the exit of a team that had appeared to be clicking into gear. The inquests into how they were picked apart on the counter will be lengthy and it was certainly a surprise given that their defence had been imperious earlier in the tournament. There had been progress, too, in the integration of Neymar into Tite’s tactical plan but it all unravelled and – while they had more than enough chances to force extra-time in Kazan – they could have few complaints about going home earlier than hoped.
7) Uruguay (down 3)
The regrets about Edinson Cavani’s injury, sustained just as he had hit a fine streak of form, will be strong and perhaps the striker would have capitalised on the strong start Uruguay made against France. But, either way, they just did not have enough quality man for man and the last eight feels right for the level they showed in the World Cup overall. Luis Suárez blew hot and cold during the tournament and his days on this stage may have passed now.
8) Sweden (down 2)
Janne Andersson’s side hit a ceiling eventually, failing to trouble England until it was too late and finding their lack of craft exposed. It frustrated Andersson that they were undone at a set piece, though, and perhaps things would have panned out differently had they held on for longer. Sweden contributed plenty to the tournament, from that thrilling encounter with Germany to a mightily impressive destruction of Mexico, and while their players slumped to the floor after 90 minutes in Samara they can be happy with their month’s work.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup ended earlier than he would have wanted with Portugal going out to Uruguay in the last-16.
Since returning home, the Real Madrid superstar has been at the centre of what is potentially one of the most surprising transfers of all time: him switching to Juventus.
Ronaldo’s long-term future in the Spanish capital has often been up for debate. However, there was a growing feeling that this summer he actually would go. After receiving a massive fine for tax evasion before the sudden departure of Zinedine Zidane, it just seemed like as good a time as any for CR7 to pack his bags.
But where would he go? PSG? MLS? Or return to Manchester United? They seemed the best bets. They were until Juventus came out of nowhere anyway.
Reports in Italy, Spain and Portugal (reports pretty much everywhere to be honest) this week have suggested that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is edging closer to a sensational €100m move to the Serie A giants.
Ronaldo, it seems, feels the need for a fresh challenge following nine years at the Bernabeu, during which he has lifted four Champions League titles and scored 450 goals in 438 games to cement his place as one of the greatest – perhaps the greatest – footballer to ever play the game.
Now, Juventus have inadvertently sent rumours into overdrive after the club appeared to post a video on Chinese social media platform Weibo which all but confirmed Ronaldo’s move to Turin.
It’s, of course, since been deleted but it seems fairly conclusive from where we’re sitting, teasing Ronaldo’s arrival by running through previous players to have worn the number 7 shirt for the Bianconeri.
OLIVIER GIROUD SENDS MESSAGE TO THIERRY HENRY BEFORE WORLD CUP SEMI-FINAL AGAINST BELGIUM
Thierry Henry has found himself in somewhat of a moral dilemma
The Arsenal and France legend is rightly considered one of the greatest forwards of his generation, but on Tuesday night he will be coming up against his native country with Belgium.
Thierry Henry is currently working as Roberto Martínez’s assistant manager with Belgium, who will play France in a World Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.
France’s attack is spearheaded by Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, who firmly warned Henry that he’ll “be happy to show Thierry Henry that he chose the wrong camp.”
Giroud made the tongue-in-cheek jibe at Henry with a cheeky smile in his latest press conference in Russia, while speaking to a French journalist.

Henry will undoubtedly remain professional and do everything in his power to ensure that Belgium make it to the first World Cup in their history, but he has found himself in a win-win situation.
Romelu Lukaku could not be in better hands than Henry, who was one of the best finishers of his generation. But he will be up against a very solid defensive wall that comprises Benjamin Pavard, Raphael Varane, Samuel Umiti and Lucas Hernnadez.

4.15pm: Jose Mourinho has reportedly launched a stunning swap offer to land Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.
The 21-year-old has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, with both sides looking to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.
But shock reports in Spain have claimed that their Premier League rivals United are keen to bring Dembele to Old Trafford.
According to Don Balon, a Spanish outlet famous for its outlandish transfer claims, Mourinho is prepared to use Anthony Martial as a makeweight in a swap deal.
3:45pm: Willian has agreed a deal with Barcelona and the two clubs just need to agree on a transfer fee.
Football consultant Ian McGarry said on the latest episode of The Transfer Window Podcast: “Barcelona have satisfied Willian’s contract demands in the discussion with (agent) Kian Joorabchian and the club and it’s now just about agreeing a fee with Chelsea.”
“(Lionel) Messi and (Luis) Suarez have complained to coach Ernesto Valverde that they are weak on the right-hand side and need more creativity, someone who delivers the ball quickly into the centre of the pitch so they can do their thing.
“Barcelona are looking to strengthen because they know Real Madrid are looking to strengthen significantly.
“Willian is the kind of player who will fit in perfectly with the Barcelona squad and the philosophy with how he plays.”
2:30pm: Jurgen Klopp insists Daniel Sturridge can still save his Liverpool career.
Sturridge kicked off his pre-season preparations in style yesterday, scoring twice as Liverpool beat Chester 7-0.
Klopp said: “I saw a lot of good things from Daniel so he needs more of that, he can still impress me.
“I know about his quality. A very positive week, very positive today, he looked really good.”
1:15pm: Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Lorient over a potential deal for France midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.
New Gunners boss Unai Emery is eager to bolster their ranks further and Sky Sports report that a deal for Guendouzi is close.
12:30pm: Everton are eyeing Sweden’s top player at the World Cup – Emil Forsberg.
They would have to splash £25m for the winger as he recently signed a new deal with German club RB Leipzig.
Forsberg, 26, has also been linked with Liverpool while Arsenal are also in the frame.
Forsberg’s reputation has gone up a notch following his performances in Russia this summer.

“Bits and Pieces” has risen to number 2 on the music streaming site with the American rapper’s album “Scorpion” that was released on June 28, sitting on the number 01 spot. The singer has saidshe is very much humbled by the success of the album.
Bits and Pieces which is the follow up to 2017’s “Still Here” was released on July 2, and is comprised of 10 tracks that the singer previously revealed are so personal to her.

CRYSTAL EMPIRE MUSIC AND RECORDS WORLDWIDE UNVEILS NEW ARTISTE
Crystal Empire Music and Records Worldwide (CEMR) which was officially unveiled on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 have unveiled its first artiste, an Afro-pop singer, Osayamen Precious Ikponmwonsa Toye who goes by the stage name Opiz.

Ugandan rapper Fik Fameica has finally released the long waited for music video of his song called “Born to Win” whose audio he released a few days ago and it is right here for you to watch and download the free audio.
The brand new crystal clear Born to Win music video was shot by Jah Live Films and the audio was most of Fik’s songs was recorded and produced by Kaysam Kumapeesa to bring out his unique touch.
In this new song, Fik Fameica brand about his life struggles and what the future holds, he showcases off different fashionable outfits, choreography the best of his swagg.
PURPLE PARTY IN MBARARA
After a successful Jinja show featuring some of Uganda’s best artists in May, Purple party will be taking the lituation to Mbarara this weekend. The party will be held at Agip Motel on Saturday, July 7.
Hosted by TV star and Purple party proprietor Douglas Lwanga, it will feature performances from Uganda’s crème de la crème artistes like Bebe Cool, Fille, Feffe Bussi, and Spice Diana among others. Just like the past editions, the Mbarara event is expected to attract a massive turn up.

The Club sponsored event recently fired up Hotel TransAfrica in Jinja leaving the masses yearning for more.
WINNIE NWAGI SET TO QUIT SWANGZE AVENUE
Singer Winnie Nwagi has two months to decide whether to stay at Swangz Avenue or embark on a solo career. According to a source, her contract is almost expiring.
Rumours have been suggesting that she is unhappy under the label.
When Ntale left, it was thought that they would concentrate on promoting her, but that is not the case. Swangz is instead pushing Vinka as their lead artiste.
Although Nwagi and Vinka portray a healthy relationship through their social media platforms, insiders say they are not really friends.
KIRUMIRA LEAKES BRYAN WHITE SECRETS

It looks like Afande Kirumira has turned his guns to socialite Brian Kirumira alias Bryan White. Kirumira says that Bryan White must be re-arrested for illegal possession of a gun.
Kirumira alleges that the gun Bryan White used to shoot Victor Bitwire a few months back was smuggled into the country according to the findings by the DPP.
The socialite was however released after few days behind the coolers, thanks to Kayihura’s assistance.
Kirumira links Bryan White’s activities to the embattled former Police chief whose allies are being arrested one by one.
Bryan White has been called many things like a spy, drug dealer, and a conman among other names.
A few days ago, Bryan White dragged Facebook blogger, Ashburg Katto to police for calling him a drug dealer, which he disputes. He claims Ashburg has been tarnishing his name for a long time. But what is so intriguing is that Bryan White has no known source of income or a job.

CINDY NOMINATED IN AFRICA MAGIC VIEWERS CHOICE AWARDS
Dancehall queen and actress Cindy Sanyu, has been nominated in the category of “Best Actress In A Drama ( Movie/TV Series) for her role in the movie, “Bella” alongside Omotola Jalade Ekeinde (Nigeria), Miriam Kayode (Nigeria), Agaba Joan (Uganda) and Keira Hewatch (Nigeria).
Other Ugandans that have got a nod in the prestigious awards include; Eleanor and Mathew Nabwiiso (Rain), Agaba Joan (The Torture), Kizito Samuel (The Forbidden), among others.
The announcement for the 2018 edition was made on Saturday by Nigerian comedian, Bovi, and Ghanaian actor, Joselyn Dumas, on Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv respectively. The 6th annual AMVCA awards will take place on September 1 and will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels.

ANNE KANSIIME REACHES YOUTUBE MILESTONE
Big things are always going for continental comedienne, Anne Kansiime. The comedienne has hit 500,000 subscribers on YouTube, making her the most followed Ugandan celebrity on the video sharing platform.
She has celebrated the milestone by thanking her fans for giving her their unconditional support, funding and sustaining all her production work, as well as the children at her Kansiime Foundation.
