Two people have already died in kitagata parish kyeizoba sub county in bushenyi district after eating meat of a dead animal suspected to be suffering from anthrax disease.
According to bushenyi district vice chairman who doubles as the area district councilor of the above sub-county told mourners at the burial of the late Andrew Bweyare that samples of the two people suspected to have eaten and died of the suspected disease were taken to Entebbe government laboratory for testing to confirm whether its Anthrax or not.
Mr. Ndyahoza Peter added that as soon as results come to Bushenyi, they will tell people the next course of action. He however warned the public, especially those in Bushenyi and outside to stop eating the meat of dead animals.
Efforts to get the district veterinary officer Dr Robert Ntukunda did not yield any fruits as he confirmed to www. mknewslink.com in a text message that he was held up in a serious meeting of anthrax disease scare in Bushenyi district.
The chairman LC3 kyeizooba Mr. Bakikunde who was in the affected parish, never attended the burial of the late Andrew Bweyare but sent the message through the MC Mr Sam Kironde that people of kyeizoba and beyond should be careful and stop eating meat of the dead animals because the scare is eminent.

Police in the Greater Bushenyi region have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of 72-year-old Godfrey Nyehangane, a retired teacher from Sheema District. The suspects, identified as Victor Magezi (22), Stuart Turyasingura (20), and Kato Stephen (17), all worked for the deceased.
According to SP Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, the arrests followed the use of a police sniffer dog, which led investigators to the trio. The murder occurred on Wednesday night in Nyamitanga Cell, Kakunyu Ward, Sheema Municipality.
The assailants reportedly stole several items from the victim’s home, including a flat-screen TV and a mobile phone. Preliminary investigations revealed that Nyehangane’s body was found tied up, with blood coming from his mouth and nose, indicating that suffocation may have been the cause of death.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem.

Police in Mbarara city are investigating the cause of the fire that on Tuesday night gutted MP Best quality feed factory in Nsikye Nyamitanga, Mbarara city south division, destroying property worth billions.
The Rwizi regional police spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, told www.mknewslink.com reporter that a team of detectives was still trying to establish the cause of the fire that left property worth billions of shillings destroyed.
Kasasira, however, said that no person died apart from machines that were razed down by fire.
Yovan Muhereza, the manager of MP Best Quality Feeds, reported that the fire began on Tuesday night around 11 p.m., damaging several feed supplies and machines. He suspected foul play may be involved.
Kenneth Arinda, an employee at the facility, stated that the fire originated outside the factory, further raising suspicions of malicious activity.

Police in Mbarara City are searching for unidentified assailants who raped and murdered a 30-year-old woman in Katete Central Cell, Katete Ward, Mbarara City South.
The police have identified the deceased as Ustine Kyompaire, who hails from Ruborogota in Isingiro District, and has been operating businesses in Katete Central Cell.
SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region police spokesperson, stated that the victim was assaulted near her home on Sunday night, raped, and then killed.
He added that the police have launched a manhunt for the attackers, and the victim’s body has been taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
This is a second gruesome incident in Katete within a month, following the murder of Mercy Natukunda, a mobile money attendant, who was killed at her home and her over Shs 8 million stolen.

Bushenyi district public accounts committee PAC yesterday chased twice the district Engineer Barnabas Mbonimpa Kiiza after he failed to account for one billion shillings meant for roads.
The committee chaired by Kamadhi Muhammed from Kyamuhunga town council told the media after the hectic day that the internal and external auditors queried the fake accountabilities provided by Eng. Mbonimpa and asked PAC to investigate him so that he vomits the money.
The roads that are in poor shape according to Johnson Nagasha are in Kyeizooba, Bumbaire, Kyabugimbi, Ruhumuro, Bitooma whereas the money was released to work on them in the four quarters of last year.
Nagasha noted that they will ensure that Mbonimpa refunds the money or he is interdicted and demoted.
Mbonimpa has been Bushenyi district engineer since early 1990s. He was an engineer when greater Bushenyi still had Ntungamo as one of its counties.
The new Chief Administrative Officer Ms. Phionah Sanyu spent the whole day in PAC meeting looking at all the staff that had queries and she told www.mknewslink.com after the meeting that the new chapter must be started because she can’t allow to work in an environment where staff are corrupt.
The chairperson of the roads committee Hon. Annet Mugisha Katusiime resigned recently because of the mess in the roads sector orchestrated by Eng. Mbonimpa.
The supervisor of works in the department Eng. Katungi retired early this financial year and the member of the committee Nagasha told www.mknewslink.com that Katungi must come back and account for the one billion he spent with Mbonimpa.

The Member of Parliament for Igara East and head of mobilization for Patriotic League of Uganda Michael Mawanda Maranga has revealed that president Museveni must retire in 2026 because even the best dancer leaves the stage at some point.
Museveni has been in power since 1986 and he has been preparing the son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba but he is delaying to give him the power.
Sources from state house around president Museveni told www.mknewslink.com managing director that president Museveni wants to run again for the last term but Muhoozi and his supporters want the seat in 2026.
He said this yesterday night 10th Sept.2024 in a radio program on Hunter FM and Theo FM while on phone from Kampala.
Mawanda who has been in prison for one month on charges of corruption was on 30th August 2024 bailed but since then he has not appeared in his constituency and last night was his first time to speak on air.
Mawanda who is head of mobilization for patriotic League of Uganda a pressure group headed by the first son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was released after Kainerugaba abused his father on X formerly Twiiter saying that the father moves with the ‘biggest thief” Odrek Rwabwogo while his man Mawanda rots in prison.
The MP noted that he is strategically positioned in Muhoozi’s government and is in the kitchen and will be serving the people of Igara East and western Uganda with great services because he will be key decision maker.
In the studios were two PLU supporters; Rwakataka and Johnson Nagasha who noted that Mawanda is a great leader as well as a strong supporter of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba therefore people of Igara East should vote him in 2026 to work with Gen.Muhoozi.
Johnson Nagasha told listeners that there could be some things which are not going well because the MP has been in prison for some time but they will be sorted out soon.
Mawanda said that he would have come to the constituency but he is in Northern Uganda with David Kabanda doing an assignment from Gen. Muhoozi and he assured listeners that he will be back soon, dine with them, and celebrate release from prison.
He however said that he can’t talk about the case since the law doesn’t allow him to talk about a case which is still in court.

A dispute has emerged between Mbarara District Local Government and the office of the president over the ownership of a key government building located in Booma, Mbarara City, which houses several offices, including that of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) and the Immigration Office.
During the handover ceremony of the RCC office to the newly appointed Catherine Kamwine, Lt. Col. James Mwesigye, the outgoing RCC of Mbarara, revealed that the district leadership has repeatedly demanded the land title for the property. Mwesigye said he had notified the Office of the President about the district’s claims.
The building, which Mwesigye says accommodates numerous offices such as the RCC, Regional Internal Security Office (ISO), District Internal Security Office (DISO), Regional Prisons Office, Citizenship and Immigration Office, Mbarara District Service Commission, and the UPDF 2nd Division Liaison Office, is currently claimed by the Office of the President.
Mwesigye, who is set to assume a new role as the Commissioner for Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) in the Western Region, handed over his responsibilities to Kamwine, urging continued cooperation between city leaders and the new RCC to ensure efficient service delivery.
Mbarara City Mayor, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi, praised Mwesigye for his efforts in fighting corruption in the city during his tenure as RCC. Kamwine, in her remarks, requested support from local leaders to help her fulfill her duties.

The Minister of state for Veteran Affairs (Defense) who is also the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi is dead.
According to her father, Philemon Mateke, the former Minister of state for regional affairs Sarah Mateke died of heart as they rushed her to the hospital.
Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi (born 15 July 1974) is a Ugandan politician and educationist who has been the woman representative for Kisoro District. She was previously Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development appointed in 2021 by the President Yoweri Museveni.
Hon. Nicholas Kamara, Member of Parliament for Kabale Municipality, expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “I am shocked and saddened by the death of our colleague and friend, the Woman MP for Kisoro and Minister of State for Defence and Veterans, Hon. Sarah Mateke. My condolences to the family”
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance, and Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi East, Kanungu District, also posted on X: “I am sad to announce the death of Hon. Sarah Mateke, Woman MP for Kisoro District and Minister of State for Defence, Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs. May the good Lord comfort her family, and may her soul rest in eternal peace. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda, shared with reporters: “I received the disturbing news this morning of the death of our Cabinet colleague, Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke (DWR-Kisoro). This is truly sad. The National Organising Committee (NOC) will meet with the family and coordinate with the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs to ensure a dignified send-off. A full burial program will be released in due course. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Mateke family, H.E the President, the entire Cabinet, the Ministry of Defence, the people of Kisoro, and all Ugandans. May God strengthen us and grant Hon. Sarah Mateke eternal rest.”
Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi was born in the Chahi subcounty, Kisoro District in the Kigezi region to Philemon Mateke and Joy Rwanfizi Mateka a professional teacher.
Nyirabashitsi attended Seseme Integrate School then Maryhill High School for her secondary education. She joined Bugema University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
She also held a Master’s degree in Public Health from the same University and a Postgraduate diploma in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University.
Nyirabashitsi entered her family’s businesses including timber production and transportation. She was the founder of Nyirabashitsi Foundation where she supports children to join boarding secondary schools from senior one to senior six. She was the chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Metropolitan International University, Makerere Metropolitan Management Institute, Kampala.
Nyirabashitsi joined the public service as Assistant Town clerk of Kisoro town council. In 2021, she contested for the woman member of parliament of Kisoro District and won against incumbent Rose Kabagyeni.
Nyirabashitsi was appointed Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development (Children and Youth Affairs) replacing Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi. She is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement.
