Police in Fort portal have arrested a man and still
hunting his wife for subjecting a housemaid to brutal torture at their
residence in Kidukuru-Kihembo B cell, South Division Fort portal
municipality.
Police officers led by Ms. Namyalo Hadijja the officer in charge of
Child and Protection Unit raided their home in Kidukuru-Kihembo B to
arrest the wife and her husband only identified as Lolland who is
working with Centenary Bank Fort portal branch, but the two had left
home for work.
This compelled police officers also to storm the Bank, but their
efforts to arrest the man were futile as he was already deployed in
the field. Police however coordinated with the bank management who
called him from the field and later came back home where he was
arrested from.
The employers were reportedly infuriated when the 13-year-old victim
from Nyakyera village, Ntungamo district, failed to perform some tasks
assigned to her. His arrest came after one of the human rights
activist Mr. Guma Tomas who reported the matter to police.
Some residents confirmed to police that the girl has been repeatedly
tortured by her employers.
By the time when www.mknewslink.com reporter filled this story, Lolland was still at
Fort portal police station recording the statement. However, Namyalo
warned house owners against beating up and torturing house maids.
However according to Namyalo cases of child labor in Kabarole district are on increase.
