There are rampant cases of men and women who engage in the acts of homosexuality in Kabarole district according to the district health officer Doctor Richard Mugahi.
He was speaking as chief guest during the belated world aids day celebrations for Ruwenzori dioceses organized by Kyebambe Child Development Center under the Compassion program at St. John’s cathedral in Fort-portal. He said over 50 men are believed to be sleeping with fellow men in Fort-portal alone as well as women sleeping with fellow women.
The health specialist however told crowds that HIV/Aids is real and it kills despite of someone’s status Young or old, girls or boys, women or men, literate or illiterate among others but added that government has put into consideration since the virus landed into Uganda in late 1983 over 32years back. He said all is useless if citizens do not correspond to the measure and calls by the government in preventing the scourge.
Homosexuality is also one of the major spread of the deadly disease in the district contributing to other players like commercial sex workers, motorcycle riders, long distance drivers among others.
Agnes Kusemererwa the overseer director for Child Development Center in Ruwenzori diocese told the crowd that hundreds of fellow Ugandans have succumbed to HIV/Aids and many families have left homeless with many children remaining orphans. She says that under compassion program the diocese focuses on assisting vulnerable children who are offered support in education and other social needs. The support she said are offered from the four centers of Mukubo, Kitumba, Kyebambe and Kabarole child development centers all part of Ruwenzori diocese. She called for abstinence and faithfulness amongst couples before urging people that test positive to enroll on ARV’s in order to live longer.
