FAKE ANIMAL DRUGS KILLING CATTLE IN UGANDA

In Bushenyi—
Government has been challenged to take immediate action to ban fake acalacides in local markets in a bid to control ticks which are becoming a problem in dairy farming.
The call was yesterday sounded by a researcher and consultant; Cryton Arinanye during a one day public lecture organized by Ankole Western University in Sheema municipality, Sheema district.
He said dairy farmers lose a number of animals as a result of ticks that are becoming resistant to all types of drugs due to fake acalacides.
Reliable sources say heads of cattle died recently in Rubiriizi district as a result of farmers using fake acalacides.
Alinanye attributed persistent ticks in dairy farming to government’s failure to ban the fake acalacides.
He said that in their research, they found out that authority is in hands of only president Museveni thus a reason why fake acalacides are still being sold in local markets.
The main presenter was Prof.Anne Matte from Aarth University in Denmark who presented her preliminary research on coffee and dairy farming.
At the lecture, one of the participants and a farmer; Yasse Mubangizi blamed the Government for militarizing NAADS program which is being supervised by unqualified military personnel.
