Yesterday at around 08:45 pm, boys’ dormitory of Rwaibaare secondary school, kakiido sub county in sheema district caught fire and property of 77 students including beddings, books, pocket money and others burnt to ash.
It is alleged that the cause of fire was electrical short circuit though some allege that it was due to disconnections caused by some students who charge their phones even if it’s illegal to have a phone in school.
Some of the 77 students who got affected blame the kakiido police officers for delaying to come to rescue their property.
“instead of police coming here with fire extinguishers to save our property, they came with guns as if guns can put off fire, I’m not happy with police….. ” one student said.
David Turyamusiima the Head teacher Rwaibaare secondary school sent all affected students to their homes for a short break up to Thursday on 19th July this year.
He instructed them to all report with their parents and then after there will be a meeting of parents. Turyasiima told students to report with new beddings, books and other basics that will help them in studies.
Mr Carder mucunguzi Geoffrey who is the head of old students vowed that together with police they get to know the cause of the crime and requested students who know what may be the cause to report secretly to the head teacher or police.
O/C kakindo police station assured students, parents and teachers that police will be them up to the end as investigations are going on.
