A section of National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Rwampara District have urged the Woman MP, Molly Asiimwe Musiime, to run as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections following her defeat in the recently concluded NRM party primaries, where she lost to Annah Kansiime in a highly competitive race.
While addressing journalists on wednesday in mbarara city the leaders praised Asiimwe for spearheading several development initiatives in the district, including the establishment of seed schools, improvement of road infrastructure, and the construction of a hatchery
Owobushorozi David, the Mayor of Mwizi–Kabura Town Council, commended Hon.Molly Asiimwe for the development initiatives she has championed in the district.
Owobushorozi highlighted some of her achievements, noting: “She has lobbied for essential projects such as piped water and seed schools, which are already transforming the lives of our people.”
He further appealed to President Museveni to allow Asiimwe to contest as an independent candidate, saying: “We still need our daughter. It is unfortunate that our victory was stolen, but we are ready to re-elect her as our Member of Parliament.”
Owobushorozi added that the people of Rwampara are determined to stand by Asiimwe: “We are not ready to lose a golden leader like Molly Asiimwe.”
Amon Niwarimpa, the NRM secretary for Bugamba Sub-county, stated that Molly Asiimwe deserves the chance to contest as an independent candidate. He emphasized that she has faithfully served the party for a long time and pointed out that it is not uncommon for NRM leaders to run independently. Niwarimpa added that Asiimwe should equally be allowed the freedom to seek re-election and continue serving her constituents in Parliament.
“Asiimwe has worked for the party for a long time and she deserves the freedom to stand as an independent candidate. It’s not the first time party leaders have contested as independents, so our daughter should also be allowed to stand and serve us again as our member of parliament,” said Amon Niwarimpa, the NRM secretary for Bugamba sub county.
While addressing the media recently, Molly Asiimwe Musiime revealed that her bid for re-election is driven by the desire to finalize crucial development projects that are still incomplete.
“As a district, we have made progress, but there is still a lot to be achieved. Some of the projects I started are not yet complete, and I feel duty-bound to see them through,” Asiimwe told journalists.
She pointed out that the Nyakiraguju–Bugamba–Kitwe and Ruti–Mwizi–Kabuyanda roads, which were included in the National Development Plan IV, have not yet been tarmacked. “These roads are critical for development. I successfully lobbied to have them included in NDP IV, and I will pursue them to the very end,” she said.
On water supply, she noted that the Mwizi–Kabura water project has not yet been accomplished, though it is scheduled for implementation in the forthcoming quarter. “I am committed to ensuring that this project is completed,” she emphasized.
Asiimwe further highlighted challenges in road infrastructure, saying Rwampara district only recently received its road unit. “We currently have only two machines instead of four, which has slowed down road works. My priority is to ensure we get all the necessary equipment so that our roads are properly done,” she explained.
In the education sector, she said she has lobbied for several seed schools, which are yet to be constructed. “Education is the backbone of development, and I want to be there to ensure these schools are completed,” she noted.
At a personal level, she cited community initiatives such as the energy-saving stoves project, which has been piloted in one parish and is planned for rollout across the district, as well as a hatchery project, which is still in progress.
“My bond with the people of Rwampara is growing stronger every day. My knowledge of the district’s needs is deeper, and my confidence in Parliament has grown,” she said, adding, “When you trust me, I will not let you down. I am committed to serving you, thriving together, developing together, and working together for a better Rwampara.”
