FORMER MP AJA BOUNCES BACK TO NRM

The Former Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament Andrew Baryayanga Aja has announced that he has officially re-joined the ruling NRM party.
Aja who had served for 10 years as an independent MP for Kabale municipality ditched the party when he lost in the party primary elections to the then MP Serapio Rukundo.
Rukundo then doubled as the area MP and State Minister for Tourism. AJA decided to contest as an independent in the general elections, and he won.
He again run as an independent in the 2016 elections and won.
Recently in February 2021 election he lost to FDC’s Dr. Nicholas Thaddeus Kamara.
Speaking to our reporter, Aja said his loyalty remained with the NRM but had left the party when he was cheated by Rukundo.
“I have been NRM ever since; I have been attending some of the NRM caucus meeting and supported all the bills in parliament. Now I have decided to officially announce because some people have been saying that I quit,” he said.
“The truth is I have never; I am a son of the Movement, my late father was among the first strong supporters of the UPM and President Museveni in the 1980 election.” Baryayanga asserted.
David Bahati the State Minister of Trade, Cooperatives and Industry (Industry) and Kabale NRM Chairperson welcomed Baryayanga to NRM.
Bahati said Baryayanga’s return has opened the way for other opposition politicians to see the light and rejoin or join the mass party
Ajas move may advantage him in 2026 should he decided to fight to regain his seat as MP. The changes that might see part of Rubanda East joined to Kabale municipality may give Aja an edge.
