GOVERNMENT TAKES STEP TO SAVE REFUGEES

Government has taken special steps to respond to the access to justice and security needs of refugees and host communities.
Dr. Zeija Flavian the Mbarara resident judge noted that, refugees are now safe in Uganda after the tremendous commitment by the government to make sure that this class of people feels secure and comfortable in Uganda.
Flavia was speaking at the dissemination workshop at acacia hotel in Mbarara town organized by legal and service providers’ network (LASPNET).
He added that, it should be everyone’s responsibility to make sure that refugees from all walks of life are protected.
The executive director LASPNET Sylivia Namubiru Mukasa said that, as the organization advocating for providing platforms for effective networking, they are devoted to ensure that refugees are protected and their rights are observed.
Uganda is a host to the largest number of refuges in Africa with over 1.2m refugees mainly from South Sudan, DRC, Burundi, Rwanda and Eritrea.
