GOVERNMENT TO REHABILITATE KAKYEKA, KABALE STADIA

The National Councilof Sports has selectedKabale Municipal stadium among the five stadiumsthat are to be rehabilitatedby the government of Ugandain this financial year of 2018/2019.
This was revealed on Tuesday, 23 by the chairpersonNational Councilof Sports,Bosco Onyik, during theKabale sports stakeholders meeting that was held at Cephas Inn in Kabale municipality
The stadiums to be renovated areKabale Municipal stadium, Pece stadium in Gulu, John Akii bua stadium in Lira, Mbale Municipal Stadium and Kakyeeka stadium in Mbarara.
Onyik says thatthepavilionshall be upgraded, modern dressing rooms,Stores, board room and aperimeter fence among others will be constructed.
He adds thatdifferent types ofgames like badminton, handball, boxing netball football volley ball, athletics and basket ball will be played in the stadiums.
Later after the meeting, Onyik with his team from National Council of Sports led by the Kabale District Sports Officer Moses Tumwijukye Bwengye among other sports stakeholders inspected the stadium to witness its current state.
The district leaders welcomed the government initiative of revamping the stadium which he says that if its worked on it will improve onthe sports in the district as well as the income of the town.
Kabale stadium was built in the 1940s under the King George IV memorial sports fund but is in very poor state despite being the main pitch for Kabale.
