ITOJO MEDICAL OFFICER ARRESTED FOR STEALING GOVERNMENT DRUGS

In Ntungamo–
Police in Ntungamo District is holding the Itojo District Hospital
medical officer Dr. Bedah Ssenkwale for allegedly stealing drugs and
other health equipment belonging to the government of Uganda.
Dr. Bedah who has been serving as a surgeon at Itojo Hospital for long
time was yesterday caught red handed with the government drugs in his own FAMILY DOCTORS’ CLINIC located along Ntungamo-Kabale Road near Standard College.
The operation was conducted by the State house health
monitoring Unit led by Dr. Julian Nabatanzi who
was in the district monitoring the service delivery in health
Units.
According to Dr.Nabatanzi they made impromptu visit to the
Family Doctors’ Clinic after a tip off from residents who were
complaining about Dr. Ssenkwale’s characters.
They found many drugs, health equipment labeled UG in the Clinic and there was no qualified staff, despite providing caesarean services for pregnant mothers.
It is also alleged that Dr.Ssenkwale normally operates expectant mothers on private arrangement while at Itojo government hospital using the
government equipment.
Dr. Nabatanzi ordered the clinic to be temporarily closed as the
investigations continue.
The police recovered items that included Mbarara university books, a
variety of drugs and gloves.
Talking to www.mknewslink.com , Geoffrey Osinya ;a detective from the State house health monitoring unit confirmed the arrest saying Dr.Ssenkwale was taken to Ntungamo Police Station to answer charges related to theft of government drugs.
