Joint Medical Stores has started a program of engaging medicine and pharmacy students to improve service delivery in the pharmaceutical sector.
The JMS Executive director Dr Bildard Baguma says students will come up with innovative ideas which can address challenges the pharmaceutical sector still faces.
He said logistics management especially related to orders, quantifying and supply of drugs, quality of drugs and medical supplies, storage and distribution are some of the challenges that need to be addressed.
Baguma said this during the launch of the Joint Medical Store innovative challenge at Mbarara regional warehouse offices.
The launch was attended by medicine and pharmacy students of Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
The executive director also noted that robust quality management system of drugs and medical supplies are important in the pharmaceutical sector and once they are compromised medicines lose potency which leads to disastrous effects on the consumer.
During the launch, Joint Medical Stores donated three Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ventilators and two anesthetic machines to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
The Hospital director Dr Celestine Barigye hailed the JMS partnership in supplementing governments efforts in improving health service delivery saying that the donated equipments are critical in service delivery like the ICU ventilators used to support life of patients with critical injuries.
