KABALE CENTRAL MARKET FOOD VENDORS CURSE CHONG CHUING INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION CO.

Flesh food vendors in Kabale Central market are cursing the Chong Chuing International Construction Company for having roofed the market with transparent iron sheets which have destroyed their vegetables.

The new facility was constructed at a cost of 23billion shillings by the Chinese Chong Chuing International Construction Company under the World Bank-Funded Markets and Agriculture Trade Improvement Program III (MATIP) in 2019 and handed it over to the government in early December 2022.

The flesh food vendors said that they have resolved to use Tarpaulins because the situation becomes worse during sunny days whereby the sun rays via the transparent iron sheets heat their fresh vegetables making them shrink for not customers to buy.

“The heat from the white transparent iron sheets is not only dangerous to the fresh vegetables but also to our health” they added.

Mr Turinawe Julius the chairperson of Kabale central market food vendors blamed everything to authorities who never first consulted the vendors on how to roof the market saying the transparent iron sheets have become a problem to their vegetables.

“Government constructed the market to hoping to elevate us from poverty but it has instead recruited us to something worse than poverty because of the transparent iron sheets which are completely not spared any of our vegetables” Turinawe lamented.

Turinawe said that they took a report to the town clerk and the minister of local government Raphael Magyezi but all in vain.
