Addressing the journalists at Miami Hotel in Kabale Municipality yesterday, Rev Fr Gaetano Batanyenda said that now in Uganda there are minority super-rich and the majority who are wallowing in poverty.
He says the rich, who are the direct beneficiaries of the regime, seek medication from abroad and their children study from good schools unlike the poor.
He questioned the impact of recent state of the Nation Address on the poor person, saying it only focused on the super-rich. He further questioned the 7% Economic growth of this year which the president said also involved the poor class.
Rev Fr Gaetano Batanyenda further accused National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) for failing to protect wetlands from encroachers, especially the rich.
On 6th June the President accused people in Busoga sub region for destroying wetlands through growing rice. He further ordered them to vacate wetlands with immediate effect.
However, Fr Batanyenda said that the president’s order of restricting people from encroaching wetlands doesn’t affect the rich.
He questioned whether Museveni restricted the rich from constructing factories in Kampala and Masaka wetlands, which led to collapse of Katonga Bridge.
