The general court martial today 13th may 2019 has convicted Boda Boda 2010 leader Hajji Kitatta and his colleague on charges of unlawful possession of firearms.
The Military Court that has adjourned the case today is expected to read out the respective sentences to kitatta and police officer Ngobi Sowali.
The rest of the suspects who have been in jail for almost 16 months were acquitted on all charges of unlawful possession of firearms and military stores.
Addressing court after the conviction, lead prosecutor Lt Col Raphael Mugisha asked for maximum sentence of 10 years to Kitatta and Sowali to work as a deterrent to other-would be offenders.
He later said that, firearms ought to be possessed by only trained officers because they cause mayhem to the society members if left with in hands of wrong people.
Shaban Sanywa the defense counsel however asked court for a non-custodial sentence, saying that the accused have been diligently serving government and they deserve lenience.
Kitatta has been the NRM chairman Rubaga and he has done a lot during in that position for the government; Ngobi has served the Uganda police diligently lawyer told the court.
He also asked court to put into considerations the one year and four months period which the convicts have spent on remand yet they have families to look after.
He added that court should take into account that the guns which they were found that they had never committed any offence and they have been obedient during the hole trials.
One of the accused, private ssekajja Ibrahim was acquitted on charges of unlawful possession of a fire arm because the Pistol which he was found with was found with markings of Uganda police and when SSP Nixon Agasirwe appeared on court testified that it was him who assigned it to him officially.
Meanwhile Ngobi Sowali was found guilty of unlawful possession of an SMG riffle while Kitatta of Golden Pistol.
