The Deputy speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa has concurred with tycoon Hasan Basajabalaba that there is urgent need for the government of Uganda to establish health insurance to save lives of all Ugandans.
Deputy speaker Tayebwa said this today August 16, 2025 while representing President Yoweri Museveni during the final sendoff of Hon. Canon Mary Karooro Okurut at Bushenyi play ground in Bushenyi town.
Rt Hon Tayebwa noted the issue of health insurance raised by Tycoon Basajabalaba is absolutely correct and is already in cabinet and will be tabled in parliament by goverment.
He added that death is an equalizer because it doesn’t put a difference between the rich and poor. “When a rich persons or poor ones die they are put in coffins and their feet face backwards and are buried in the same land size”
Tycoon Basajabalaba also raised an issue government of Uganda partnering private health facilities to serve the public better.
Deputy speaker Tayebwa also noted that its very correct for government to partner with private health facilities for better service delivery. “Let me introduce to my father Mzee Daudi Bangirana, when he falls sick, I take him to either KIU teaching hospital or Adventist Hospital Ishaka. They are all private”.
From the brief speech of the president read by the deputy speaker, he hailed Hon. For being disciplined and hard working. He said the country will miss her.
He[president] offered her official burial and still Parliament according to the deputy speaker will hold a special sitting to honor Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut.
In the same vain, Tycoon Basajabalaba pledged 100m for any project the family will approve in memory of Hon Mary Karooro Okurut.
The chairperson of the sendoff ceremony Hon. Micheal Mawanda, Igara East MP hailed Hon Karooro for being God fearing that is why she was given the highest lay Christian title of CANON.
Dignitaries who graced the function included; Emeritus PM Ruhakana Rugunda, ministers; Magret Muhanga, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Frank Tumwebaze, Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama, Haruna Kasolo.
MPs were Joram Tibasiima, Mwijukye Francis. Ambassodors Franklin Katungwe, RTD Amb. Nduhuura senior citizen Johnson Bitarabeho among many others.
