MASINDI FARMERS PREPARE IN ADVANCE TO BENEFIT FROM OIL AND GAS PROJECTS
By Innocent Atuganyira
In Masindi—
Farmers in Masindi district are positioning themselves to benefit from oil and gas projects through farming.
Farmers who on Monday morning received pineapple suckers from Operation Wealth Creation said that due the dense population in the Albertine Grabben, there will be enough market for their fruits.
Doreen Wandera a resident of Bigando cell in Kigulya Division Masindi Municipality who received 10,000 suckers of pineapple explained that since they are in oil and gas region, there will be high demand for their goods.
She noted there are few farmers who grow pineapple in the region, and she hopes dense population in the region will create for them demand for their goods in oil and gas projects.
“I hope other farmers will get pineapple suckers from me for multiplication once they grow,” She further noted.
The farmer however wants the government to construct a pineapple factory in the Bunyoro sub region to increase the demand for pineapples.
Maj. Norbert Besisira the Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator for Buruli Constituency told our reporter that they received 100,000 pineapple suckers on Friday, and today (Monday) they were distributed to 10 farmers in Buruli Constituency.
Besisira explains over 30 farmers in the district requested for pineapple suckers from NAADS in 2019, but they delayed and they received on Friday.
“Many farmers were no longer interested in suckers citing that they have already put their land to use,” He noted.
