The Police in Mitooma District apprehended two parish chiefs and a Sacco chairperson from Mutara subcounty over allegations of extorting money from residents prior to distributing parish Development model funds.
The individuals in question are Robert Muhwezi, Ryakitanga parish chief; Aggrey Nyehangane, Enshaka parish chief; and Stuat Kabeho, chairperson of Ryakitanga PDM group. Their arrest followed complaints from residents who claimed they were coerced into paying money.
Mitooma District’s Chief Administrative Officer, Shariifah Nakintu, stated that the suspects exploited their positions to demand money from beneficiaries, which contradicts PDM guidelines.
Benon Karyeija, Chairperson of Mitooma District, revealed that the accused had amassed more than 1.5 shillings from individuals. Karyeija urged citizens to report anyone seeking money beyond the recommended PDM amount.
Merisent Ariyo, Mitooma District’s Deputy RDC, mentioned that they’re also hunting for other suspects from different parishes implicated in similar unlawful activities.
