In Sheema—
Sheema district woman MP Hon Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukurukuru has this morning donated 80,000 hoes to Sheema district COVID 19 task to help people of Sheema in fighting against famine and poverty.
Handing over these hoes at Sheema district headquarters, Jacklet said that Sheema district has about 80,000 families and that each family is entitled to a hoe saying that she believes in China’s proverb of giving someone a hook or net instead of a fish,
“I couldn’t give you posho because posho can’t last for even a week but this hoe will last for years and if you use productively, it can make you a billionaire, use it to cultivate both food and cash crops such that in case of any epidemic , it finds you well prepared with enough food and please don’t be tempted to sell this hoe but use it constructively,”Jacklet told electorates.
She expressed her worry over how Sheema district which used to be a food basket has these days changed that people beg for just a kilogram of posho.
Jacklet urged people to bring back old culture of stocking food in granaries by working harder to grow enough food.
Sheema district RDC Frank Kyereere thanked Hon Jacklet for the donation saying that she is the first leader in Sheema district to donate something which all people will share equally.
He asked Jacklet to handover hoes to Chairmen LCI for distribution to their respective villages but vowed to arrest any Chairperson who doesn’t supply those hoes equally.
This isn’t the first time Jacklet has supported people of Sheema in agriculture; this year in March, she supplied fertilizers to people of Sheema and during last year’s planting season, she gave free maize seeds, beans, soya beans and potato stems to the people.
