MUST STUDENTS PROTEST DELAYED LIVING OUT ALLOWANCES

Over 600 government sponsored students at Mbarara University of science and technology (MUST) have today (Tuesday) went on rampage demanding their living out allowances.
Addresing journalists,Mugyezi Justus Kizito the Guild president MUST says the semester commenced on 4th.july.2022. and students have been so much waiting for their living out allowances but all in vain.
Mugyenyi reveals that the semester which was supposed to kick start in May was extended to July after the University realized that there would be no finances to cater for the aggrieved science students which prompted it to extend the Holidays of all the students.
It Should be noted that every government sponsored student is entitled to get Shs.800.000 per semester as the living allowance.
Science students who intimated to this online publication state that they do 15 course units everyday from 8am-7pm on empty stomachs and purpote that the money in question was supposed to be released two weeks back but they are yet to receive the funds.
Addresing angry science students ,Nickson Kamukama the Deputy Vice Chancellor In charge of academics ,Said the University management is critically handling the matter and revealed that the University is committed to collaborate with the ministry of finance to issue out the funds.
He adds that there was a delay by the ministry of finance to clear the outstanding dues and further requested for ample time for the University to engage In the ministry of finance.
Addresing journalists ,Moses Aruho the Deputy Resident city Commissioner Mbarara city south confirmed that no arrests were made from the strike and revealed that as the office of the Resident city Commissioner and the University administration engaged one of the Commissioners at the ministry of finance on phone who assured them to release the funds in two days time.
