OVER 30 FORT PORTAL SS FOOTBALLERS INJURED IN BUS ACCIDENT

At least five students of Fort Portal secondary school are in critical condition and 30 others admitted with minor injuries after their school bus involved in a nasty accident on Wednesday evening.
According to Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Region Police spokesperson, the bus overturned at Kitarasa along Fort Portal-Bundibugyo road, North Division Fort Portal city as the students were returning from Kichwamba technical college playground where they had gone for a football match.
Twesige noted that five students are in critical condition after they sustained broken limbs and serious head injuries.
“Many others were also injured and admitted in the hospital but they are steadily improving. The driver lost control and the bus overturned. He’s still at large,” Twesige said.
The injured students were rushed to various medical facilities that include Fort Portal Regional Referral hospital, Virika and Kabarole hospitals.
Nurses at Fort Portal hospital said that most of the students sustained injuries in the chest, hands, heads, legs, and face among other body parts adding that they are closely monitoring their condition.
The school head teacher, Mr Regan Katerrega, in a statement said a total of 35 students sustained injuries. He identified three of those in critical condition as Kasiime Asumart (S.3), William Mutalya (S.5) and Grace Kunihira.
One of the students who was in the bus that was hired from St Maria Gorreti Girls SS also in Fort Portal, said the bus had over 30 occupants.
