President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed the fisheries protection unit at Rwenshama landing site, to allow local fishermen resume fishing activities.
The president through the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Dan Kaguta gave the directive on Friday 01/03/2019 that maintains the status quo at the landing site until the commissioner from the directorate of fisheries resources under the ministry of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries gives new licenses.
Local fishing boats at Rwenshama landing site were on 23rd February 2019 confiscated by the fisheries protection unit team headed Lt Col James Nuwagaba and their licenses revoked. This made the fishermen to petition the office of the president.
In a meeting with fishermen at Rwenshama community hall, RDC Kaguta presented the presidents directive to allow local fishermen to resume fishing activities with immediate effect.
“The president has sent me to tell you that you have been cleared to resume your activities so that you can get an income to counteract the current hardships you have been going through,” Kaguta spoke.
The meeting was also attended by the District Police Commander, Moses Nanoka district chairperson Andrewson Katebire Charles and Chief administrative officer Matias Ndifuna.
