BY OKOODI DEO
IN MBARARA—
Prime Ministers office has delivered relief food for the most vulnerable urban poor families faced with famine in Mbarara Municipality.
The consignment comprising 600 bags of 50kgs of rice each was received by Twebaze Francis the Mbarara Municipal education officer on behalf of the town clerk.
In the letter written by Martin Owor for the permanent Secretary the relief food was requested by Tusiime Micheal Mbarara Municipality MP in order to help households headed vulnerable widows , the sick, old people, Child headed house holds and those headed by people living with HIV-AIDS among others.
The relief Food was off loaded from a truck belonging to the office of the prime minister and kept at Kakoba Division Council Hall.
The Division chairperson Hajj. Abas Kazibwe said the rice should have instead been taken to other areas where people are starving due to famine
Sternly Katembeyi one of the business people in Mbarara faulted the office of prime minister for having dispatched the relief food to Mbarara without first carrying out a verification exercise to ascertain whether people in the area need such kind of help
The same views were echoed by Maiso Juma the LCI Chairperson Kihindi cell in Kakoba Division who said vulnerable people are not in his area of Jurisdiction
But a survey carried out by journalists indicate that such people do exist and Nabakoza Miriam was one of them who shared her plight with journalists
