In Masindi—-
Residents of Kihande II cell in Central Division Masindi Municipality are threatening to impeach their area chairperson for her involvement in grabbing of the land of the late Henry Birungi.
This morning the residents were shocked after finding the banana plantation of the deceased cut down by unknown people,
Sylvia Kiiza the widow explained that yesterday morning they weeded the banana plantation, but she was shocked today morning finding the banana plantation cut into pieces.
She further revealed that last year, a section of the plantation and mango trees were also cut down.
Kiiza narrated that her late husband could tell her how the area chairperson Ms. Grace Basemererwe and the sister identified as Annet were plotting to grab the land.
“Recently Basemererwe came and told me to pay the money she was demanding my late husband, but I told her to demand the grave,” Kiiza added.
The widow also added that she has been getting money for tuition and other necessities from the banana plantation which has been cut down.
She is appealing to the government leaders to intervene and help them since all children are under age, and school going noting that her life is in danger.
According to Francis Kwezi a closest friend to the deceased, he suspects the area chairperson for involvement in the death of the Henry Birungi because they had a misunderstanding over the land.
Kwezi adds that they are planning to collect signatures and impeach her because many evil cases happen in their area, but chairperson covers up.
Last year the area chairperson imprisoned late Birungi on the grounds of attempted rape, spent two weeks in cells and on his release, Birungi passed on in the space of one week.
We couldn’t get a comment from Ms. Grace Basemererwe the area chairperson because she was not available at her area of residence, and her known phone number was not also available by the time we filed this story.
However, Police were already at the ground by the time we filed this story.
