Preparations are in high gears to consecrate Rev.Can.Magezi as the first bishop of North West Ankole diocese in Ibanda district.
North west Ankole which was curved out of Ankole diocese will officially be opened with the consecration of Rev.Can.Magezi as it’s first bishop on October1, 2017 at St.Paul cathedral in Ibanda municipality.
The House of Bishops recently appointed the Rev. Can. Magezi to become the first Bishop for the new diocese.
The consecration service will be presided over by the Archbishop of the church of Uganda; His Grace Stanley Ntagali.
Thousands of Christians on Sunday filled the St. Paul Cathedral church to bide fair well to Rt. Rev. Sheldon Mwesigwa who remained the Bishop of Ankole dioceses , a post that he has held for seven years.
Ibanda archdeacon; Rev. Can. Yorokamu Atwine, who presided over the fair well for Ankole diocese, said Christians in Ibanda district have been under the leadership of Ankole diocese for over 100 years, but they have been granted their own diocese status which will be consecrated officially by the Archbishop of Uganda on October1,2017.
“All roads will lead to Ibanda district at St. Paul Cathedral hill for the consecration of the first Bishop” Rev.Can.Atwine said.
Speaking to Christians at St. Paul cathedral in Ibanda municipal, Rt. Rev. Sheldon Fred Mwesigwa, observed that his exit as the bishop was prompted by social environmental challenges because a new diocese has been created and it will be headed by a new bishop and it has been curved from Ankole diocese.
He said that he will remain the bishop of Ankole diocese; comprising the counties of Kashaari, Rwampara and Isingiro.
He appealed to Christians in Ibanda district to support the new bishop in the evangelization especially in education sector of their children; construct more churches and health service among many.
