Territorial Police in Rubanda District are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man whose body was discovered hanging in an abandoned house in Hamurwa Town Council.
The deceased has been identified as Mujuni Dennis, also known as Sadam, a resident of Hamurwa.
According to police, on September 18th, 2026, at about 10:10 a.m., Mujuni reportedly met his elder brother and complained that some of his family members, including his mother, were allegedly insulting and abusing him over accusations that he had sold his goat and spent the money alone.
Police say Mujuni later threatened to take his own life by hanging if the alleged humiliation by his family members continued.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Nelson Tumushime says Mujuni was last seen on September 24th, walking from his home towards Hamurwa Town Council.
Tumushime says that two days later, on September 26th at around 4 p.m., Mujuni was discovered hanging by a rope inside an old, abandoned house located about 100 metres from his home.
The matter was reported to police, who have since commenced investigations.
Police are appealing to members of the public facing emotional, family or other personal challenges to seek counselling and share their problems with trusted family members, local leaders or professional counsellors instead of resorting to suicide.
Meanwhile, Police in Rubanda District are investigating the murder of a 26-year-old man whose body was found lying in the middle of a road in Katojo Town Council.
The deceased has been identified as Ahimbisimbwe Elijah, a resident of Mukivunga Village, Bishakye Ward, Katojo Town Council.
According to police, Ahimbisimbwe left his home at about 11:30pm on Saturday to attend a burial in Kifumba Village, also in Rubanda District.
His body was discovered by residents at about 7am on September 27, lying in the middle of the road about 350 metres from his home in Mukivunga Village.
Police said preliminary information indicates that the deceased had been involved in misunderstandings with some of his relatives over land matters.
In a statement released on Sunday by SP Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, said that one suspect has so far been apprehended to help police with investigations.

Tumushime said police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He appealed to members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead use established legal channels to resolve disputes.
He urged the public to trust the justice system and report disputes to relevant authorities rather than resorting to violence.
