Wednesday 18th July 2018
In Kampala
A group of MPs, mostly from the opposition this afternoon accompanied their colleague and Kadondo East legislator Robert Kagulanyi alias Bobi Wine to the Kampala Central Police Station (CPS)
Kyagulanyi, is wanted by police, for leading a protest against taxing social media, last week in the city center.
Police foiled the protest and arrested some of the participants, but Bobi Wine slipped through their fingers and hid in a city building before escaping to Parliament.
The police officially summoned the Mp to explain his acts.
MPs led by the Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza, after addressing press at Parliament this morning, where they condemned the new taxes, escorted Bobi Wine to CPS, causing fracas in the city.
“We must escort one of our own as he goes to respond to the police summons; an attack on one of us is an attack on all,” said Kiiza.
The group of MPs included among others, Roland Mugume, Florence Namayanja, Gafa Mbwatekamwa, Robina Sentongo, and Gilbert Olanya.
By publication time, the Police had deployed heavily at the station, and the MPs were yet to be allowed inside.A number of protesters who joined the MPs at the station were also arrested.
