Food vendors at Masindi central market are counting losses after the market shade under which they operated was destroyed by wind.
The market shade which housed mainly food vendors in the central market came down during a heavy down pour yesterday evening.
According to one of the market vendors Scovia Kabanyoro the shade which was being supported by metallic poles came down during rain but luckily enough nobody was injured.
Kabanyoro said that the roof was held in air by big wooden boxes where they keep their properties which helped people to escape before it completely fell on ground.
However Kabanyoro said many properties which included chairs, tables, plates and food were all destroyed thus calling for support from well-wishers.
Another food vendor Beatrice Nankanja who lost many properties called on leaders at different levels in Masindi municipality to come to their recue saying a friend in need is a friend indeed.
The chairman LC3 Masindi central division Fredrick Mandera who rushed to the scene this morning said much as property was destroyed, he was happy that no life was lost.
Mandera assured the vendors that the reconstruction of the market shade will begin today since funds are available. He however warned the vendors against using the same shade saying anything can happen on them.
The same wind also destroyed the tent which was always used to conduct prayers during lunch hour in the central market.
