THREE ARRESTED FOR DUMPING NEW BORN BABY INTO PIT LATRINE IN RUBANDA

Police in Rubanda are holding three suspects for questioning over a case of infanticide.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson says Maniriho Medius aged 18 a resident of Bishakyi village, Butare parish Katojo Town council in Rubanda district, is being held alongside two others after the body of a new born baby boy was picked from a resident’s pit latrine.
Trouble for the teenager began yesterday morning at around 6:00Am when Kamunyu Bernard 37 a resident of the same village heard the cries of an infant in his pit latrine.
He Mobilised locals to rescue the baby, made a report to Muko Police station and at the same time conducted a hunt for whoever could have dumped the baby in his latrine.
Maate says a police team led by ASP Fred Wamunga the officer in charge of Muko Police station visited the scene and joined the locals in trying to rescue the child, but unfortunately, the baby boy was already dead.
Three suspects including Maaniriho the purported mother of the infant, Anastazia Mukamushabwa 80, and a 14-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the act.
Post mortem was done at the scene by Police Surgeon and body handed over for burial.
