Police in Mbarara City is holding three students of Welden school for thought to be behind the burning of the school dormitory on Monday morning.
35 students are counting losses after the fire razed the entire boys’ dormitory housing senior one students, destroying student’s property, including books, suit cases, beddings and clothes.
According to Rwizi Regional police Spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira the fire began at around 9am.
“We responded in time and tried to put off the fire but it was too much. However, we managed to put out the fire before it spread to other dormitories and offices housed under the same building,” Kasasira said.
The school resident director Elias Ssempa said the incident happened on Monday morning as students attended studies in their respective classes.
“The cause of this fire is not yet clear to us as a school, the police is just investigating what could have caused it because by the time it happened around 9am all our learners were in their class, senior four and six were starting their Pre-mock exams and the rest were in their classes for their lessons when we saw the smoke moving up, so we can not tell where the fire originated we only found the senior one boys dormitory set ablaze “Ssempa explained.
The burnt dormitory was hosting 35 students of senior one, and properties lost in the dormitory morning fire are valued at about 40million.
