By Fred Mwebembezi
In Fort Portal city—-
Residents in Rwabaganda Cell Gweri Ward Fort Portal North Division have petitioned the office of their Division Mayor to intervene and save them from being evicted by Mr. Musuga Charles Kamurasi the Toro clan head.
In a petition dated 18th August 2021, signed by 41 residents, copied to the RCC, Woman MP, North Division MP, DPC, City Internal Security Officer among others, the residents state that Mr. Kamurasi claims to be the landlord of a mailo land that they seat on.
They say he is currently threatening to evict them from their bibanja including Gweri Catholic Church. They also lament of the mistreatment and harassment by his representative Mr. Kyomuhendo Robert who collects exorbitant tenant’s fee without issuing receipts.
Monday Robert the Councilor Gweri ward says many residents including the Catholic Church have been threatened hence calling upon the relevant authorities to urgently intervene before the situation goes out of hand.
However, speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter, Kamurasi claimed that he inherited the piece of land from his father sir George Rukidi III.
Although the residents don’t have a purchase agreement for the contested land, they insist it belongs to them.
Kamurasi said that he was shocked when he saw people constructing in his land without informing him and he has asked the office of Resident City Commissioner to push them out of his land.
Trouble started yesterday after residents led by one Nyangoma Kabasinguzi fenced off Musuga’s land including a banana plantation and started putting up permanent structures drawing protests from Kamurasi’s agents and family.
