Two candidates have this afternoon withdrawn from Kabale district workers’ representative race.
The two include the incumbent Kabale district female councilor representing workers, Florence Musimenta, a Forum for Democratic Change Candidate and George Alex Zigabire, an independent candidate, contesting for the district male workers’ councilor.
Musimenta who has been in the position since May 2018 was contesting with Independent candidate Ruth Sunday Arinaitwe and Betty Amasiko the National Resistance Movement candidate.
Similarly, Zigabire was facing the Incumbent Kabale district male district councillor representing workers, Innocent Abariho Katarabase a Forum for Democratic Change candidate alongside their main rival George Saturday, a National Resistance Movement candidate who is also the Kabale district male Youths Councillor.
It’s alleged that Musimenta was paid 100,000 shillings and Zigabire 300,000 shillings to pull out of the competition in favor of Independent and Forum for Democratic Change candidates respectively.
However, speaking to our reporter at Kabale district Golf course grounds at Makanga hill Kabale municipality, Musimenta and Zigabire said that they decided to pull out of the race to form an alliance with the independent candidates so that they easily defeat their main rivals, NRM candidates.
Zigabire also added that he was not satisfied with the presented registers saying they included ghost voters.
By press time, voting was still underway.
