PENTECOSTAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS STRIKE OVER POSTPONED GRADUATION

Students of Uganda Pentecostal University situated in fort portal Kabarole district yesterday stormed the administration office in protest over the postponed graduation that was due to take place on this Friday 27^th jan 2017

The 12^th graduation was earlier announced to take place on 27^th Jan 2017 but to hear bad news that the graduation was shifted to 24^th Feb 2017 which students noted it was against the law.

The angry students moved with sticks, banners written on “graduation is a must’’being led by the former speaker of the university guild Mr. Hillary Asiimwe along all corners of the university with mixed reactions and even some of them crying.

The Uganda Pentecostal University is a private institution situated in Kahungabunyonyi Fort portal Municipality Kabarole district with its another branch in Rubaga kampala Uganda.

The angry students were dispersed by the police who arrived at the scene when the administrators could do little or possibly nothing to calm the situation.

Speaking to the students, Batungi Nasani the vice chancellor said the major reason for postponing the graduation was that most heads of departments have failed to submit the results of the students that are going to graduate like results for education faculty and journalism in time.

Batungi said that the time they had was not enough for them to compile the results making it unbearable for him to allow the graduation go on stake.

He however appealed to the students to persist citing that the administration will work around the clock to have everything done thus making an improvement in the transcript awarded to students this coming graduation.

Twinomujuni Noel the academic registrar said this was done to eliminate the past errors where even students would graduate without their marks being submitted.

He further said that this will help students to go immediately with their transcripts after graduation which has not been the case before.

Okiidi Christopher a law student year three however condemned the administration for having failed to raise a notice to students earlier which has resulted into abnormal expenses.

Isaac Muhumuza a year four law student begged the administration to compaset all the costs incurred by transporting their parents, accommodation facilities especially the students that come from distant places of Kenya, Nigeria among others and those who have prepared their parties in their respective villages.
