Locals and supporters of Bushenyi district woman member of parliament Canon Mary Karoro Okurut have raised a red flag over the poor treatment the Mp received during celebrations to mark 100 years of existence of Kitabi Catholic Parish.
Kitabi parish which was started by the White Fathers’ Missionaries in 1919 is the fourth oldest parish in Mbarara Diocese.
Celebrations were held at the parish headquarters in Bushenyi District and Karoro who is also the minister for general duties in the office of the prime minister was among the celebrants who attended including Minister of Justice & Constitutional Affairs Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire but surprisingly she was not given an opportunity to address Christians.
Amongst the master of ceremonies (MC) was Annet Katusiime Mugisha, the wife of the managing director National water and sewerage cooperation Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha aspiring for NRM ticket for Bushenyi district woman parliamentary seat come 2020.
On different whatsap groups, Karoro’s team says that the organizers including the parish priest, Rev Fr Robert Kakuru did not serve the minister with enough respect she deserves.
The team adds that Fr. Kakuru and another master of ceremony almost turned the whole event a political rally for Katusime Mugisha as they kept reminding the gathering to vote out sleeping Mps while they praised Katusiime for being a good speaker.
However, supporters of Katusime are saying instead of lamenting, they should tell their candidate to go down and wage serious wars against poverty, ignorance, unemployment among others
Meanwhile, addressing a congregation on Sunday during a fundraising event for the completion of roofing Kyeizoba Church of Uganda archdeaconry in Bushenyi district, Canon Karoro said that all what happened on Saturday is un called for adding that everybody needs each other and asked people to respect each other.
