GOVT GIVES 40 TRACTORS TO TEN WESTERN UGANDA DISTRICTS

IN MBARARA—
Government donated 40 tractors to ten districts that lie in dry cattle
corridor in western region.
Tractors will be used in pasture development like hay and silage which
animals can feed on during long dry spell.
3.8billion shillings have been used in procuring the tractors from
TAFE an Indian company dealing in assembling and selling tractors
across the world.
Minister for Agriculture Vincent Ssempija says more 178 tractors will
be procured in the next financial year in an effort to roll out the
program to the entire country so that farmers can practice improved
methods of feeding animals.
TAFE vice president Sudarsan R said their company in committed in
patterning with the Government of Uganda to share improved
technologies more in Agricultural sector so as to easily create wealth
among the populace
In his speech the president said government is committed to helping
farmers to grow modern pasture and even provide enough water for
livestock using different means like construction of valley dams.
He asked people who encroached on wetlands to vacate them and even
promised to compensate those who were misled by the past regimes to
settle in wetlands saying this would help in protecting the water
sources in the country.
He directed the ministry of Agriculture and animal to regulate the
sale of pesticides in an effort to fight counterfeit animal drugs
which have made ticks become drug resistant.
