MINISTER MAGYEZI TO BEGIN ON MEAGER FUNDING FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

The incoming minister of local government Hon. Raphael Magyezi has pledged to increase funding for local government which now stands at 8%.
He said this today morning in an exclusive telephone interview with www.mknewslink.com managing editor.
He noted that he will strengthen decentralization which is facing weaknesses because of lack of capacities by councilors and other leaders.
Magyezi noted that he is going to strengthen urbanization in upcountry towns by training technical staff and councilors then providing funding to struggling municipalities and town councils
According to local government accounting officers in Western Uganda, many local governments in Uganda are struggling because of lack of funds whereby 92% remains in the ministry and the local governments only take 8%.
