As Uganda continues to apply tough measures on fighting the spread of Coronavirus, Ugandans are worried over the increasing cases.
Most of the recent registered cases are truck drivers from Kenya and Tanzania.
Out of all 20 latest Covid Cases, 19 are truck drivers with one being a Ugandan and others Tanzanians or Kenyans.
Whereas Uganda has relatively managed to contain the spread of the virus, long-distance drivers from the neighboring East African countries are now posing a new challenge.
Most of the truck drivers who tested entered Uganda through Mutukula and Malaba borders while few entered the country from Busia border.
Now Ugandans, have logged their views on our media platforms including whatsap, twitter and Facebook with most of them suggesting that the authorities should keep the drivers and turn men at border points until their status has been ascertained.
Eric Tugume, a resident of Buhweju through whatsap, said the drivers should always be tested before departing from those countries and be allowed to travel to Uganda. “And if the government wants to protect the economy, let it allow all Ugandans to open their shops tooâ€.
Juliet Kyobutungi while talking to our reporter yesterday said, “Let the government apply faster testing kits for those drivers or if it fails let them be tested from their home countriesâ€, She said
Bruce Kajara through his Facebook page said Ugandans are expecting better results after the lockdown warning that Uganda’s problem is not about to end if the government does not solve the issue of truck drivers.
Currently, Uganda has 74 Covid 19 cases with 19 being truck drivers. The number of Recoveries stand at 45 with 29 active cases.
