The NRM party elections tribunal yesterday nullified the victory of Atukwasa Rhita Bwahika as the NRM Woman parliamentary flag bearer for Mbarara city and instead declared Bonnie Mutungi Kashaija as the diligent flag bearer.
This was in a verdict released yesterday 1st Oct.2020 signed by Enock Batara the NRM’s election dispute tribunal chairman.
This followed a petition filed by Bonnie Mutungi Kashaija to the NRM elections disputes tribunal that was previously authorised by the party chairperson and the president of Uganda to resolve dissatisfactions that resulted from the just concluded NRM party primaries elections.
Ritah Bwahika was announced a winner on Sept,4th, after collecting 14795 votes defeating her closest contender Bonnie Mutungi who garnered 12567 votes.
However, the win sparked off anger and dissatisfaction from Bonnie Mutungi’s camp who accused Ritah Bwahika of rigging votes, conniving with the NRM registrar Mbarara city to alternate results on the Declaration forms (DR forms).
According to James M.Orima a member of the tribunal, they found out that the petition lodged by Bonnie Mutungi was true hence overturning the election.
“We here by declare Bonnie Mutungi Kashaija as the duly elected NRM flag bearer, ” Orima added.
