In Isingiro—
Police in Rwizi region are hunting for a Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier, Lt. Denis Gumisiriza, who is linked to a foiled robbery in Isingiro district.
Police findings indicate that Gumisiriza, was formerly attached to Mile 48 detach in Ruborogota sub-county, Isingiro.
The development followed the recovery of a firearm and arrest of Joshua Nyesigire, 18, in Kabuyanda town council, last week.
Preliminary police findings indicate that security operatives acting on information arrested Nyesigire while in possession of an SMG rifle registration number UG. UPDF 56028583 containing 85 rounds of ammunition.
“The arrest followed a foiled robbery at the residence of one January Naboth, 55, resident of Kigarama Cell, Iryango Ward in Kabuyanda town council. On interrogation, he (Nyesigire) revealed that the rifle was given to him by Gumisiriza,” a detective said.
Nyesigire is still detained while a hunt for Gumisiriza has been launched.
