MINISTER MAGYEZI WARNS LC CHAIRPERSONS AGAINST TURNING GOVT STAMPS INTO BUSINESS

The minister of Local government Raphael Magyezi has warned local council chairpersons against imposing stamp duty tax on people who approach them for help.
The minister disregarded the land tax of 10 percent that chairpersons normally impose on people purchasing land plots adding that it is not indicated anywhere in local government act.
Raphael Magyezi was speaking to chairpersons of Local councils from the districts of Mbarara, Isingiro, Rwampara, Ntungamo, Kazo ,Kiruhura,Ibanda, Rukungiri,Kanungu , Rubirizi, Bushenyi Sheema, Buhweju as they received their new stamps at Kamukuzi , Mbarara district headquarters.
Magyezi who was the chief guest issued a strong warning to local council one Chairpersons who misuse government stamps with double dealing when it comes to land ownership which has resulted into wrangles and loss of lives.
He noted that these stamps have security seals and are traceable warning those planning to misuse them to stand warned because they will be traced and dealt with.
Magyezi revealed that his ministry has already forwarded a proposal to the ministry of finance to procure new bicycles for the local council one chairpersons to help them in service delivery.
The Mbarara Resident City Commissioner James Mwesigye however warned people with ill intentions of disabling the peace and glory of Uganda not to dare or else they will regret why they were born.
